Hats

I can't for the life of me find a cute warm hat for DS these days! Okay, so I've only looked at Kohl's and Target so far... His head is too big for the hats that came with his NB outfits and too small for the multitude of toddler hats that I can find in the stores. Any ideas for cute ones? I wouldn't even mind ordering from Etsy or sewing a fleece one. (But I can't knit or crochet beyond a chain stitch, so that's out for now.)

having someone crochet or knit one might be your best option. You can give them the measurement of his head and get one that will fit just right, yaknow?

Actually, I wouldn't mind to make one for you if you're not in a huge rush. I could probably mail it to you within a week. No charge if you could just cover the shipping (probably like $2 in a flat rate envelope)

The one I got at Children's Place seems pretty big on LO.

Try Carter's. we have the Velboa hat set for DD and I love it because it buckles under her chin and keeps her cheeks warm. We go running in 30 degree weather and she is still toasty warm after 3 mi. They make it in black for boys. Also, the micro fleece one that looks like a monster is super cute!

My mom knits or crotchets all of DD's hats for the same reason. I know she could make you one but the yarn for it is almost $20 so she charges for them. The one she made DD is very cute and will fit her next year and probably the year after. It's bonnet style so it shades her eyes, covers her cheeks, etc. we just fold back the brim so she can see. She has a really cute blue, brown and tan yarn she would use for a boy.

Old Navy has various sizes that aren't all for big toddlers.

I had the same problem! I ended up crocheting my own. I just used a chain stitch but looped back to the beginning and continued in a circle. Then keep stitching the exact same number to create a cylinder. Once your about an inch or two above the top of his head start skipping one stitch to close the top. Sometimes i put a pom on top or use two different color threads to add some flair. Its simple but does the job. Eventually I'll learn more difficult stitches for fancier hats. Just be careful you don't shrink the stitches as you go. Also close the top a lot later than you think. I made a few too tight and short over the months. Other than that I'd go with etsy.

We got a knit one off etsy and it always falls down on ds eyes in the car seat. We got one at Carter's with Velcro to snap under his chin and it works really well!

These are the two hats I made. The green one is a little short and stiff. The blue one is nice and stretchy. Both just use the simplest stitch in crochet. Try it! Image and video hosting by TinyPic Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Okay, you have all inspired me to try to crochet one! I love a good reason to use a pom-pom.  Alicia, thank you so much for the offer -- can I keep you on reserve in case my hat attempt flops? Smile I think I might also try to sew a fleece one with a chin strap, too.

Absolutely. Just Page me on our BMB if you'd like me to. =) I can make them pretty fast, and I can probably do anything you'd like. Just let me know!

Also- Check out The Art of Crochet by Theresa on Youtube! I learned how to crochet by watching her videos. She's great!
