Discussion.

On my twitter feed just now is this:

thebump: A recent study suggested that women who are thin give birth to children with higher IQs. Thoughts? http://t.co/xONFuWn2

I have to say that I think it's preposterous. I'm not too thin and Jr is top of his class. He could have a shot at valedictorian and has a very high IQ.

I can see the argument that thin people are more apt to be that way because of better diet this leading to better gestational nutrition. Yet can't see it as a full thought out tweet. My SIL is extremely thin but her kids are not the brightest crayons in the box by far.

What do you think?

Haha! This just makes me laugh and twitchy! Too many confounds for this statement to scientifically true, IMO.

I'm fatty mcfatterson and I'd have to say my daughter is pretty dang smart for a 15 month old.

Seriously though, I think that's crazy.

I am not a scientist, so I have no idea if there is any truth to this.  I'll leave that to the experts.

But I can say I don't care two licks if it is.

I think its total crap. How can they determine if kids will be smart by their mother's weight? Its freakin' ridiculous and those kind of studies shouldn't even be published.

Similar to what EmpireMom maybe they consider that thin moms eat better and to be healthier which is not always the case.

I can't even begin to understand why that would matter!  I'm just as smart as my first 3 siblings (really, smarter than 2 of them GPA wise) and I was child #4.  Not to be mean but my mom stopped losing all the weight with each kid so...

This is my question. I was at a healthy weight when I was pregnant with G if I gain 100 lbs and then get pregnant again is that child, in theory, going to be dumber?

This doesn't seem like a well thought out theory.

Yes.  Your first born will be smart and your second will be dumber than dumb.  Because it makes sense that your weight and not your ability to raise and teach a child that matters.

Yes I thought the same. As in overweight parents that are smart and well mannered can't raise smart kids only because they are big. Makes zero sense at all.

The only thing that I could say is that if you are thin your children will probably be thin...but a higher IQ? No..I don't believe that.

Oh geez. WTG Bump. I'm not thin, bit I eat very healthy and exercise hard core. It is just how I am built. I think it might be too early to predict IQ with DD and I may be biased, but she is the most advanced baby I have met IRL ever since she was a NB. We will see if that trend keeps going but I think that idea is ridiculous.
