Need ideas for making Christmas birthdays special

I'm starting to feel a little bad for DS2.  His birthday is the day after Christmas.  I'm sure he doesn't care this year, since he's only turning 2, but does anyone here have a close to Christmas birthday or any good ideas on making it special?  I'm thinking that when he gets older, maybe we'll give him his presents for his half birthday instead.  Maybe we'll take him out that day to do something really fun.  Any other ideas?  DS1's birthday is in September and the weather is almost always beautiful on his birthday.  Maybe we can take him to a bounce house place or something.

A friend of mine has a Christmas baby. He gets a small, "birthday tree" in his bedroom that he gets to decorate, and his bday presents go under it (wrapped in bday paper, of course.)

He gets a bday cake and Happy Birthday sung to him ON his birthday (Christmas).

I'm not sure what else she is doing. He's still too young to care about birthday parties, so I'm not sure how she'll handle that.

I don't have a Christmas birthday, but my dad did and so do a few friends.  I think your ideas sound really nice!  The big thing to remember is to keep the birthday special and separate from the Christmas holiday in things like gift giving and celebration, even if you don't do the half birthday thing, which I thought was pretty clever, BTW.  My friends' biggest complaint was getting gifts that were for both days.

Our DS's Bday is 6 days before Christmas (he just turned 1 12/19!). We had his party the weekend before his birthday to try to space it out a little from Christmas.

Keep birthday presents and Christmas presents as separate gifts. Birthday gifts wrapped in birthday paper. There should always be a birthday cake, candles and singing Happy Birthday. Cake should be birthday themed and not be in red & green with Christmas trees on it. Most definitely do something special for his birthday every year. It can be low key - his favorite dinner, treat, movie, etc. but let him choose what the family will do.

My birthday is near Christmas and I have horrible memories of forgotten birthdays. I went years and years without a birthday cake or candles. It made me feel so unimportant and forgotten. The big thing is just remembering the birthday and celebrating it!

My birthday is the 27th, and my parents always treated it like a normal birthday- presents wrapped in birthday paper, not Christmas paper.  I got a cake or dessert that wasn't Christmas-y.  Also, my mom made a big deal out of my half birthday in June.  I always got a present and got to blow out a candle in my dessert on my half birthday.  Just an idea!

My sister's birthday is on christmas. Growing up we always celebrated it on New Year's Eve. Don't know why my parents came up with that but I think it helped separate her birthday from christmas and made it special and differentfrom Christmas.

My birthday is Dec 26th.  I can't say it wasn't kind of lame as a child growing up!  Sorry to your LO.  However, my parents tried their hardest to do fun things with me that day.  We would always go out to dinner and then to the movies the night of the 26th.

When I had b-day parties they would always be in early January so all my friends could make it.  My parents did their best, but Christmas babies still get the 2 in 1 gifts and stuff like that.  I know it's not all about gifts, but when you're a kid it kind of is!

p.s. I'm about to celebrate my 38th b-day and my hubby sure makes it special.  This year we're staying at a fabulous hotel in Boston for the night sans LO. :-)

I am an Xmas baby. Growing up my parents always had my bday about 2 weeks before Xmas. Also with gifts my parents just seprated them. It is super easy and possible to do. I love being an Xmas baby!

I have a friend whose niece is born the 27th. She was just telling me the mom, dad, and sister always go stay at a local hotel for the birthday. It gets them away from the Christmas tree and is something special she get to do. I had not heard that before.

DD bday is December 28th and she will be 2 this year as well. We decided we will always hold her bday in January because it gives us enough space between the holidays and allows her to have her own special time. This year her bday party is on Jan 12th but we will do something special on her real bday ie family gifts, dinner and decorate the house. Her bday falls on a Friday this year so we will probably go do something really fun for her.

My husband and I both have December bday's, his is the 4th and mine the 15h so we are use to dealing with this. I always had amazing parties thanks to my mom so I will always go out of my way to make her December birthday amazing.

My little guy is turning one on the 30th.  Like you, I'm worried about the later years...with kids being gone for family/holiday vacations around the time one would have a birthday party... that sort of thing.  This year I'm making it a point to save some really nice presents for his birthday instead of thinking of just getting "fillers" (trying to get into that habit) as well as purchasing Happy Birthday paper that doesn't have a Christmas like color scheme to it.

A girlfriend of mine has a Christmas time birthday and she said her family always celebrated right before the summer as a half-birthday so kids would still be around to celebrate.  I don't really like that idea but I can't think of anything really better.

Did you see "Happy Endings" this year?  Their Christmas episode was sorta funny dealing with this exact subject.

DS's birthday is Christmas Eve, and it's been exhausting the past two years as I try to find the right balance between celebrating his birthday and celebrating Christmas with my parents on the 24th.   Though we spent the earlier part of the day opening Christmas gifts, after dinner we had birthday cake and opened birthday presents (DH's family too).  I had lots of balloons and party hats.   As he gets older and invites friends, we'll plan his birthday parties the first weekend of January.

I have thought about a mini-celebration for his half-birthday, but MIL's birthday is June 24th.  So he STILL wouldn't get his own day.   We'll have to come up with something, because I can tell already it's going to be challenging.
