Breastfeeding question....

Would any of you know why when baby makes her first initial suck why it would hurt so bad that I want to scream. Now after her first suck is over with the pain goes away? Now baby does have thrush, could that mean that nipple is infected and I would need to call myOb for medicine. Or should what baby girls doctor suggested work. Which was to just put some of her medicine on them.

I don't have experience with thrush, so I can't speak to that, but I know that when it hurts initially, it often means that the latch is shallow or incorrect. Either way, a visit with an LC would be a good idea if its really making it dreadful to bf.

Edited to add: though if you know its not latch, then I would just try what pedi recommended and see if that solves it.

First of all, with thrush you can use her meds- which in my opinion is a better option then using a cream and having to wipe it off before feeding especially if your nipples are also affected and tender.

As far as the initial pain, I have been told that my nipples are longer than most and when she would first latch she would draw the nipple out as it positioned in her mouth and it hurt like heck, especially at the beginning.

I hope those answers help you out a little bit!

Ummm...I'm not sure.

my let down is more "painful" on one side than the other.
