Perhaps a stupid question - gauging flow?

Got an odd question for you ladies. I haven't used pads since my very first one or two cycles, so I'm having a really hard time gauging how much I'm bleeding compared to what I see using tampons. I know I'm not bleeding out, I'm just keeping tabs on it to be able to tell how things are progressing over the next couple weeks.

So, how often would you expect to change a regular pad during heavy flow versus light?

I know, I had the same problem!

I think blood looks heavier on a tampon than on a pad. So, in reality I think my flow was pretty light on my regular periods even though my tampon would look saturated. So when you equate that to a pad, it looks very, very light.

During my miscarriage I was actually surprised at how light the flow was.

I'd say light flow would be not needing to change it for hours...like over 6 hours (even though you would probably change it to feel fresh), and heavy flow would be you WANT to change it every two hours or so.

I know just what you mean! I've had very little bleeding since my Friday dc I only have tiny spots on my pad after 8 hours. At this point, I change maybe 6 to 8 hours simply because it feels gross, not because it needs changing.
