Restless Legs?

I find that if I lie down and I am tired, but not quite ready to fall asleep yet, I get this sudden urge that I have to move around. I don't feel "tingles" or "creepy crawlies" in my legs like some of the books describe, but it's more like just a sudden, strong urge to shift position, almost an anxious feeling. Does this still sound like restless legs? Once I am ready to fall asleep, I have absolutely no problem falling asleep and those urges to move go away, and it doesn't happen if I am lying down and I am not tired.

Sounds like my RLS. It's worse when I'm pregnant, overly tired or after I've been drinking. My legs are uncomfortable until I shake them.

I have RLS too, and this sounds exactly like how I feel. It's really annoying. :/

Sounds like it to me. I have that too. I have been taking benadryl to help with falling asleep and staying asleep.

I experience something similar and I have my husband massage my calves with an electric massager every night before bed and it is a huge help. I never experienced this prior to being pregnant so I attribute it to fluid and circulation changes.  The massager helps my legs relax so I don't have the uncomfortable urge to move my legs. I also have had fewer leg cramps at night.

Definitely sounds like RLS.  I have this prior to pregnancy and had to stop taking my prescriptions to help with this.  You are lucky it doesn't bother u when trying to sleep, and only when relaxing.  I get it all the time, including when just sitting down to watch tv and relax.

i believe there may also be a link between RLS and low iron, so it may be worth looking into your iron levels.

 Good luck, take care.

I get this, but I also get the tingly/creepy crawly feeling. Lucky us. It has happened with both pregnancies so far, so I attribute it to change in bloodflow, circulation like pp mentioned. I try to do calf stretches before bed and it sometimes helps. GL!

Ditto this exactly. I miss my meds for RLS so much. :( My sleep doctor also recommended checking iron when I was first diagnosed. It was low, but didn't get better after my iron went back to normal. My iron is normal now and of course RLS is fierce since I don't have any RLS meds. But, it is worth checking your iron it does help some people.

Also all of the traditional sleep stuff supposedly helps according to my sleep doctor so no caffeine 12 hrs before bed, antihistamines in the morning instead of before bed, etc. None of it's mattered for me, but might help you.

Definitely sounds like RLS. I would get it before pregnancy but it's definitely more frequent now. What I like to do is really stretch out my hamstrings when I start feeling them. Make sure it's a good LONG stretch.

Good luck.

I'm not sure if that's RLS, but I get those urges too!

Yep, I get it too, it's Restless Leg Syndrome. It sucks. I only get it occasionally when not pregnant, like when I'm overly tired. I get it every night with this pregnancy though.

Try to put a heavy blanket over where you feel it the most. I have a quilt that must weigh 15 pounds and I lady it over my hips and knees and it helps a ton.

I have found that doing a quick leg workout before bed cures it for me. I have been doing:

-10 full calf raises (on my stairs) on each leg

-20 squats

-10 lunges per leg

(Repeat this 3 times)

Seems to help me, and haven't had RLS show up since I have been doing this. That and it makes me feel good about keeping in shape :)
