I can't give you a personal recipe because I usually look it up online. I'll share the one I use from the internet!

They are delicious!

Blasphemy!! They are sooo delicious!

Karleegirl, the above recipe looks similar to the one I use, but I never measure shredded cheese by the pound, so without looking it up, I don't know how many cups is in 2 lbs. but the ingredients are basically the same except I typically use a pound of hot sausage and a pound of mild [not sage, although that sounds good too!]

Side note: Not sure what brands of sausage are sold where you are, but I have only found one brand that does not contain MSG... J C Potter. To me, this is important, but it may not be to you. Just wanted to mention it though!

I love these and make them nearly every year. Just today I went to the grocery store and could not find sausage! I'm irrationally afraid that uncooked pork sausage is somehow regional and I won't be able to find it where I live now. Hmph.

are these a regional thing? I have never heard if them either. They look awesome and I'm going to try them. Do you make a dipping sauce it anything to go with them?

ETA: bumping on phone sorry about any punctuation or spelling errors.

I don't know if the sausage balls themselves are regional, but they're definitely common in the south! I've never seen them served with sauce. They don't need it!

I am in the northeast and most grocery stores don't sell it.  However, our local farms and farmers' markets have it all the time. Maybe check for local farmers or a small local store with a butcher?

I am so surprised by this! Is it not common to eat sausage patties for breakfast up there?

It is probably a little less common.  I think more people do links instead of patties. Everything is normally "formed" so you don't get just ground sausage in a package - even if it is uncooked, it would be in patty form.  It's okay with me.  I don't buy much meat from the grocery store.  It is a million times better if you get it from a local farmer around here.

I agree! We have a butcher that buys from local farmers. We keep saying we need to use them more than we do. It's not any more expensive... just more out of the way! Poor excuse.

Karlee, sorry we hijacked your thread! I hope your sausage ball endeavor was a success!
