Babysitter wage..

Just curious how much you pay/would pay a babysitter for an hourly wage?

SIL & BIL are paying a family friends 16 y/o $10/hr to watch my nephew (he will be 1 next month) tonight. I think that is ALOT but I have never paid anyone to watch my kids (luckily I have alot of free sitters) so maybe I'm just no aware of the going rate.

Also our minimum wage here is $9.19. $10 seems so much for a sitter.

We haven't used one yet but my mom friends say that $10 is standard here. I charged that when I was 13 but that was for 3 kids and that was almost...20 years ago Indifferent

Our sitter is collage age and we pay her 12 an hour for 2 kids. I thought we were on the cheaper end for our area.

Wow, guess I'm just out of the loop..

Glad I don't have to pay a sitter! lol.

And now I realize how ripped off I got when I was watching our friends daughter. If I broke it down to hourly it was probably $5/hr..

I used to charge $10 when I babysat as a teenager. No idea what people are charging today, but I'd say $10 seems normal.

I live in a low cost of living area, and I think teenagers around here usually get 8/9. So 10 is probably normal.

We paid our high school babysitter 10 for one kid, sometimes when we do a couples date with friends, we use their college sitter for 12 for 2 two year olds. I think it's expensive, but then again 2 kids that age are not easy to handle.

For reference when I was babysitting at 13, I think I made 6 for three kids. But things were way different 20 years ago. No way would I want a 13 year old watching my kids even for that cheap

See I babysat at 13 and even younger I think. DH's cousin (she is 13) always brings up babysitting and there is no way I would leave me kids alone with a 13 year old. I just don't think they are old enough.

On the rare occasion we use a paid sitter (17 year old high school senior), we pay $10/hour. I babysat from 12 up and can't believe people left me alone with their kids at night that young! I got $6/hour to start and when I was in college nannying for a very wealthy family, I got almost $20/hour which I could never afford to pay!

I am extremely blessed to not have to pay for a sitter like that. If we go out, it's usually during the day (matinees are so much cheaper) so he just goes to his normal sitter ($85/week). My sister keeps him on weekends while I work & I give her $40 for 2 days.

I'm ready to climb the walls, too, buddy.

When we started needing a sitter for DD, I asked all of my friends with kids what they pay (11 couples in my small group from church) and the average was $5-7 an hour. Depending on if they drive, and if they are regular or not.

We pay ours 7.50/hr, but that fluctuates depending on how long she is watching DS for and the time of day. If she has to do lunch and dinner, for example, or if he's sleeping most of the time. We live in an extremely low COL area and our regular sitter would actually cancel her shifts at her other job to babysit for us for a few hours... We also generally round up to make it "even" and give extra if DS was extra fussy or if they did something unexpected, super fun and out of the ordinary.

I babysat the same family of 3 kids from age 1218! I can't believe they left me at 12 with their 3 children lol. I started off making 10 an hour and ended at about 14 an hour. That was for 3 young kids though. I nannied in college and I made 14 an hour for twins. My friends younger sister babysits a 18 month old regularly and she gets 12 an hour. 10 seems pretty normal for me.
