Evening Primrose Oil

I never thought I'd post about any "let's get things moving" methods but alas I am. I am looking at a medical induction within a couple days after Christmas, so I thought I would just try some EPO. I know it may not even have time to do much at this point, but maybe it will make things more favorable if I reach induction.

My question is (aside from just being curious what anyone's experience with it was) - I have read that it doesn't induce labor, it only ripens your cervix.  However, when I was induced with DS and given Cervadil, that was really only intended to ripen the cervix too, but it caused my water to break and put me into labor all on its own, so isn't it possible the EPO could do the same? Or is Cervadil so much stronger that there's not even a comparison?

I think the efficacy of EPO is questionable but it can't hurt. It won't compare to cervadil.

I dont think EPO would do the same. Cervidil is much, much stronger.

I don't think the EPO sent me into labor any faster, but I do think it made my cervix more favorable to change.  I dilated pretty efficiently once I went into labor, so I'm a pretty big believer in the power of EPO.

My MW instructed me to take three tablets orally and one vaginally each day (yep, you just stick it up there and it dissolves).  Make sure to do the vaginal one at night, though, and wear a pad bc that stuff leaks out and is nasty.

Hope OP doesn't mind if I piggy back with a few questions . .

Do you need to do anything special when taking this pill? Extra water? Take with a meal?

Any negative side effects?

Agreed. This is the same advice my MW told me the first time around starting at 38 weeks.

This... And might I suggest you have them strip your membranes versus jumping right to an induction??? I had this done at 3:00pm and started having light contractions within the hour... Finally had DS the next day at 5:41pm

Just a thought...

I started taking it vaginally at 37 weeks.  I was fully effaced by my due date, but contractions still didn't start until week 41.  My water broke naturally when I was 7cm dilated & immediately went into transition when it broke.  I have no experience with Cervadil, but would recommend EPO and will be starting it again in a few weeks!  Best of luck!
