Hospital ? for new/stms.

Hi there,

I am going to be headed out to the hospital to have LO any time now and I have a silly question. Did you ladies take your hospital bags with you or did you send DH to get them from the car after the big show? My hospital has a labor/delivery room and then a different recovery room (which I actually just found out last night and am kind of confused about - why would they not just leave you in one room the whole time?) anyway - any opinions on what to bring up to labor and delivery and what to leave in the car would be most appreciated.

TIA

I had a labor bag, which we brought in with us, and a recovery stuff bag, which dh got from the car once the dust settled.

I brought a book, my iPhone, and charger to Labor and Delivery. DH brought his iPad to keep him entertained. Once we were up at the Maternity ward DH went to get our bags and pillows.
Good luck!

We also had a labor/delivery room and a recovery room.  I had DH bring me inside and get checked in, and then while the nurse was starting my IV I sent him back out to the car to get my duffel bag (which had everything for me in it), his back pack, and the boppy pillow.  She was born at 6pm we moved to our recovery room around 8:15pm, so that's when I had him go out and grab the baby bag.  We left the car seat in the car until right before we left.

I sent DH to the car to get it once I knew I was going to be admitted for sure.

i'd leave it all in the car unless you have something you need for the labour room like music or cameras. maybe pack a little bag you can bring up just for labour and then when you're moved over to the recovery room then you can get DH to run down to the car and get everything else.

our hospital has two rooms as well - we only had 5/6 delivery rooms and several more recovery rooms.

My hospital did the same thing. I fit everything in one bag and I took my own clothes to wear instead of a gown and stuff for DH. The only thing I left in the car was the babies clothes in the carseat.

I sent DH after we were admitted but while we were in delivery. I only had a duffle bag.

And the rooms are very different. Recovery is a basic hospital room whereas delivery has all the medical equipment for mom and baby. They don't need the equipment once you have the baby, so it's most effective to move you out for the rest of your two to three day stay then bring in the next delivering mom.

I left all my bags in the car, except for my purse because it had my phone and camera, and then my DH went and got our bags after we had LO and were settled in our room.

We brought our bags in with us, left the diaper bag, car seat and Boppy in the car.  We probably would've left more in the car but I was induced overnight, so we did need some of our stuff.

We left everything in the car until we were sure I was getting admitted. I know I sent him to get it around the time I got moved form triage to l&d, but it was such a blur that I don't actually remember it. I had a lot of stuff I wanted for labor in there, so I needed it right away. And our hospital had a separate l&d floor, and two hours after the birth we got moved up to the pp floor. The l&d rooms were bigger and had different beds where the feet dropped out, and had the stirrups and squat bars as well as the baby warmers. The pp floor had much smaller rooms with just standard hospital equipment.

I had a bag for me and bag for my daughter. My hospital had the same set up. Labor and delivery room and then recovery room. Labor and delivery was just that, and then after everything is done, they clean you up, and take you and baby to recovery room for the rest of your stay. I packed a gown, slippers, sweat pants / shirt (to go home in), underwear, socks, and brought a travel kit (deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, and lotion). I also brought in her bag as well.

My hospital was the same way. One room for labor/delivery and one room for recovery. Here is an idea of what I took.

Labor/delivery: Snacks for DH, therma-care back wrap (I used for shoulder pain because I had contractions through my shoulder after I hap my epi), phone chargers, our tablet/computer & charger, camera, headband, and pillow for both me and DH (we are germ freaks so we had our own pillows)

Recovery/pp room: I sent DH to the car once we were moved and he got our bag that had clothes, tooth brush, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, snacks, water jug, hair brush, nursing bra and boppy.

Then once we found out we were being discharged he went down and got our baby bag and carseat.

Also, keep in mind that you may be there for more than just the 24 hrs. We had an emergency induction on Thursday and we were able to leave until Sunday evening due to LO having jaundice and I was GBS positive. So, make sure you have extra clothes just in case.

Hope that helps =)

Brought it all with me.  I had packed stuff to keep me busy.  Good thing too, because we had a long wait.

We brought our bags with us and my DH went and got them once I was settled in and we knew for sure that I would be staying to have the baby. My hospital also has a l&d room then they take you to a postpartum room, so we had to transfer everything there afterwards. I would suggest just bringing them to the l&d room since you guys will probably be too focused on baby afterwards to want to worry about going to get the bags!

GL to you :)

I just brought my purse in with me. I left my bag and the baby's bag in the car. My husband got them once we were all settled in our room after the birth.
