Can I use topical steriod cream?

I've got a nasty case of eczema on the tip of my thumb, making it hard to do anything. Can I use steroid cream?

I'd call the pharmacy and ask.

i agree - call the pharmacy.

if it's hydrocortisone then i believe you can. especially if it's a light layer on your finger. but just double check

Yes. It's fine. I had horrible pregnancy rashes all of the time last time and had to use really strong stuff pretty much all over. It's not a big deal.

I'd call your OB. Since you say it's really bad you prob need a Rx cream. Mine prescribed one for an eczema flare up I had and said she does it all the time for her patients with rashes and it's not a concern.

I'd double check with your doctor/a pharmacist, but I was prescribed steroid cream for something last time I was pregnant.

I agree with the other posters.  You probably want to check with your OB to be certain.  I've had horribly itchy skin on my belly lately, and my OB recommended using Benadryl cream on it.

I don't know if the pharmacist will be much help. Mine wouldn't recommend anything OTC for pregnancy. They don't want to be held liable if something goes wrong since they don't have your complete health history and aren't doctors. I'd call the OB.

My OB wouldn't let me use anything other than oatmeal bath and Benadryl cream until the day they induced me when they finally gave me a 2 hydrocortisone.

I am on one right now (prescription).  It is a category C, but I was assured by my OB and pharmacist that it was fine in third tri and especially in very small amounts like I need.

I don't even like to take Tylenol and have had to have several prescriptions over the past 6 weeks due to an issue I am having (they keep trying different things).  I feel blessed to have access to meds, but I hate going through this as I really wanted to have nothing the whole time!  But again, things that are no-nos in first tri can sometimes be ok by third depending on what they are.

Good luck!

Expecting our second baby on February 7, 2013. Trusting Him whatever comes our way.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011 at 20 weeks. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.
