Progesterone Result Question - and I'm sorry :(

Hi Ladies,

I've been a big poop-head. I haven't been around for days, I didn't post the crazy train for the weekend (and bug picked it up for me on Thursday too) I've just been running around like a crazy person for a week. I haven't been home, near my computer, or even had time to check in mobile. It's sucked, and I'm sorry I wasn't here to give support.

So... big squishy ((((hugs)))) to everyone that needs them that I missed. I'm sorry, and I love you.

After being a big, useless, poop-head Now I come with a question... doubly sorry.

I had a 6dpo progesterone test on Friday and just got the results today. She said they were 6.8 and that was fine because anything over 3.0 was ovulatory. But pretty much everything I've read on line says that it should be at least 10. She said that if I get a +HPT to call, they'll bring me in right away for betas and also do a progesterone test then, and if it's low they'll put me on supplements then... but don't most of you on progesterone start taking it shortly after O? Wouldn't it be too late once I got a +HPT?

My mind is kind of reeling. Thank you ladies for taking the time to help me when I definitely haven't been returning the favor the last few days. Merry Christmas (since I almost definitely won't be able to get on tomorrow) and Love you you all!

the above 10-15 number I have seen is for those who were medicated to induce ovulation. for now, congrats! you've ovulated!  it sounds like you are being followed closely.

good luck!

Miss you Soprano!  My progesterone for my medicated IUI cycles was always tested at 7dpo, and if it was low, that's when I would start supplements.  I've never had a 7dpo check on a non-medicated cycle, but I'm looking at all my lab results, and the reference range on the labs slips is listed as 2.3 - 25 during the luteal phase.  So you should be good to go!  FX

PAIF/SAIF, PGAL/PAL welcome.

I've been wondering about how different doctor's prescribe progesterone differently too. My doctor said that my progesterone levels were within the normal range with my mc, but that what is needed to sustain a pregnancy can be different in everyone. My doctor said he would start me on progesterone once I got a + HPT, which seems like that could be too late.

So, I really don't have an answer for you, just wanted to let you know that my doctor also said that he would prescribe the progesterone after a positive test.

Good luck!

I've always heard over 10 for non medicated cycles, but I honestly don't know if thats in reference to pregnant or non pregnant progesterone numbers. I think it's in reference to pregnant progesterone

Progesterone is a hard number to pin down, so try and not place too much weight on it. It fluctuates throughout the day so it's hard to pin point a progesterone defect based on one number alone. Combined with your charts and leautal phase, which are very pretty, this isn't neccessarily bad news. Really, I don't think progesterone is your issue, but I totally understand how frustrating it is to not be given the chance to fill in the void of a potential answer.

That said, I've also been told the same thing time and again about not starting until pregnant. I don't understand why dr.'s are so reluctant until I remember one thing : most women don't know when they ovulate, and taking progesterone before you actually O is essentially shooting yourself in the ass. So most doctors only Rx it when women go through medicated cycles and the doctor is monitoring ovulation. The task is on YOU to prove to your doctor that you know when you O and to convince them you want to try it starting 3dpo.
