Crib conversion question

Does anyone know if I can just take the front part of the crib off and make it into a day bed or do I need to buy the kit with the rails for some reason?

You do need a rail on the front to replace the crib side. Our crib came with it. It was just a length of wood. You need it to support the frame.

We did that for a couple weeks until DH and I were able to get a Saturday to go buy an actual twin bed.  We used a Munchkin brand bed rail from Target--that's the rail that's on his twin bed now.

Our crib didn't come with the rail. We just took the front off and put a pool noodle under the sheet and she hasn't fallen out. The only thing is the sides of the crib are not as sturdy now that the front is not attached. We will also be looking for a twin sized mattress pretty soon.

Alright. Sounds good. We already have a bed, just need to buy a new mattress, etc. The input will help in our planning!

Depends on the crib. Ours is constructed such that we can do that, but the instructions specifically say so. I wouldn't do it if your crib doesn't say you can.
