Those who use pacifiers

What brand do you use? I have been trying gumdrop pacifiers.

N seems interested in pacifiers, but she can't seem to get the hang of them. I've only really gotten her to suck on them 3 times and only for 10 seconds or so.

I've given her my finger to suck on during desperate times but I don't feel comfortable doing this due to germs, etc.

She is EBF.

Mine would suck all the time and so we have in and got a paci. Since then she doesn't want to suck all the time so she uses It very rarely. But we have the NUK orthodontic one. She seems to like it

To get dd1 to suck we either "helped her" by putting a finger on each cheek and pushing, making her make a "suck" or we dipped the pacifier in gripe water making her take it.

She used the hospital soothie pacifiers.  They're very similar to the avent soothies and I think are most "nipple-like".

DD2 does not seem to be as pacifier-happy.  She sucks at her hands and bobs on me after she's done eating (if I put her back on the boob, she just sort of sits there, so I know she's done" but I can't get her to take the pacifier.

DD2 sounds a lot like Noa.

We were hoping for something for when we leave the house. She doesn't tolerate being out that long before she starts screaming and my finger usually calms her right down so I was hoping we could get her to take a paci for the same effect, especially for when I go out alone and pretty much just have to stop what I am doing and go home.

I think I may try the soothies and a nuk before giving up completely.

Thanks :)

I got gumdrops because Cu liked the Soothies and they seem so similar. He won't take them. It's like they're harder and thicker than the soothies.

He also wouldn't take the MAM ones.

His favorite, because he can hold on to them best, are the NUK ones. They're completely different from the Soothies, but those are the two he takes. The NUKs and the Soothies. Oh. He also uses some Tommee Tippee ones, they look like mini NUKs and they're mini size is why I think he cannot quite keep a good grasp on them.

We are EBFing too. I still maintain that I prefer him to fall asleep without a pacifier because sometimes when the paci falls out, he wakes back up. But sometimes it's just what he needs to get to sleep. Also, he refuses to comfort suck on me. If he's not eating, he gets super angry staying on the breast. I haven't decided how I feel about that HAHA.
Also, the last couple of days he has started sucking on his hands and thumbs so I offer the paci.

Hmm. So apparently I just gave every bit of information in my brain about my son and the pacifier. Hopefully buried in there is an answer to your question.

We use the soothie pacifiers and baby C loves to suck so they give my boob a nice break.

As far as getting Noa to take the pacifier at the hospital they told us once its in her mouth to gently tug on it to get her to suck harder to keep it in her mouth, it took a couple times but finally she figured out how to keep it in.

We use the soothies too. B seems to prefer them when you put your finger in the hole on the back of the pacifier and let him chew on (gum) it.

Noah likes the MAM ones. It didn't really have any interest in a pacing until he was about 6 weeks old. He sucks it now at times but doesn't have to have it. He hated soothies and gumdrop ones. I EBF. If we use bottles every now and then they are Medela.

L will alternate between the hospital soothie and the Avent pacis. More often he takes the Avent ones.

M doesn't always take them, but when he does he only takes the nuk brand. He did not like the avent pacis!

We were given a vanilla scented Gumdrop pacifier at the hospital. D enjoyed it, but the dog sniffed it out and chewed it up. I couldn't find a replacement so we tried some non scented ones from Gumdrop. D can't stand them.  When I went to get my K'Tan the other day they had some Phillips soothies for cheap so I got one and D likes that one a lot.

I agree with PP the soothie brand is softer than gumdrops, I think that is part of what makes a difference.

A rarely feels like the paci and when he does he only likes the Soothies. I tried the Gumdrop and Binkys because they're supposed to be similar to the Soothie...and you can use a paci clip with them...but A hates them.

To get A to learn to keep the paci in his mouth, I taught him to hold it in with his hand. I kept putting his hand to the paci to keep it in place and now he does it on his own.

We use the hospital ones. My advice is to kind of pull on it once it's in baby's mouth and make him suck harder to keep it like reverse psychology. This is what the Happiest Baby on the Block suggests and yet worked for us.

F isn't too picky about them anymore. But I would suggest trying the Dr. browns brand. They are just a different shape than other brands, so maybe worth a shot!

F likes other brand like I said. But When He's really enthusiastic with them, he'll like launch them out of his mouth. The dr brown ones are really thin, so that doesn't happen. So, they're great for like in the car, when I can't be constantly picking it up for him.

We have a gumdrop from the hospital this time, and a few soothies from when S was born. S never really liked them, but around 3 months, started taking them for nap time. T, on the other hand, took to them immediately. Just keep trying. I wouldn't force it, though.

At first M would only take the soothies, but now she'll take those or nuk. I like the nuk the best because they don't pop out as easily.
