Is this the right place for someone starting IVF?

Hi everyone,

My name is Kristina, I have posted before on the nest/bump but not in a while. My husband and I have been TTC since September 2010 with no luck. I am 34 and he is 39. We have done several cycles of clomid/IUI etc and we think we're ready to try IVF. We have a meeting with our RE in January to discuss it. I am looking for a place for support while we deal with this. I think that dealing with infertility has been the most difficult thing in my life so far.

If anyone has any books/websites/blogs that might also be helpful, they would be appreciated.

Hi Kristina,

  We will also be starting our first cycle of IVF in January/February. I am still fairly new to the boards, but I can relate to how you are feeling. It's a heartbreaking journey! 

 Something that has helped me is joining a local infertility support group. I was reluctant to join - that sort of situation is usually not my thing, but my RE suggested it at a time when I was really down and I'm glad she did! It meets once a month and it's nice to have a place to go where I can let my guard down and be around others who understand.

TTC since January 2011
B/W & SA: All normal
September 2012: Lap & Hysteroscopy = Blocked/damaged tubes (Hydrosalpinx).
February 2013: IVF #1: transferred 1 blast = BFN. 12 frosties.
May 2013: FET #1: transferred 2 blasts = BFN.
Next step: Surgery to remove both tubes = 7/12/13. IF sucks :(

Hi!  I used to have a puppy when I was little that looked like yours :)  I have finished my first round of IVF - just in the 2ww.  This is a great place for you - everyone here is super nice and ready to help and answer your questions.  It is so overwhelming at the beginning but when you are doing it, its not as bad as you think it would be.  Does that make sense?  Not the best thing in the world but definatly not bad enough that I would never do it again.  Good Luck!

IUI 8-12 and 9-12 failed
IVF 12-21-2012 - 2 I think perfect no matter what the dr graded them (2B)embryos transferred Beta on 12-31-12 Positve - Beta is 21
Beta 2 1-2-13 - 31
Beta 3 1-4-13 - 53
Beta 4 1/9 - 212!
Ultrasound 1/10 - Nothing completely empty uterus Beta 1/14 - 743; Beta 1/17 - 1704 ultrasound shows nothing. Officially a miscarriage. 1/21 Beta 3900 Dr. says it ectopic. Ultrasound shows a miracle heartbeat right in the uterus where it belongs! Dr. says I can be cautiously optomistic!!! Hang in there baby!

Me: 39. DH: 41. TTC since 2009.
FSH: 9.5 at highest. AMH (11/2011): 0.9. AFC: 10ish. HSG: Normal. SA: Normal.
July 2011 - Feb. 2012: 2 Clomid/TI cycles; 3 injectables/IUI cycles. Good response but BFNs.
Dec. 2011: Laparoscopy (clear) + hysteroscopy to remove uterine polyp.

April 2012: IVF #1: FSH 9.2, AFC 7-8. Antagonist protocol.
Started stims (300iu Gonal-F, 150iu Menopur) 3/28.
Added ganirelix 4/1. Trigger 4/5 (7 follies). ER 4/7: 7R, 0M, 0F. :-(

Nov. 2012: IVF #2: Long Lupron protocol.
Started Lupron 10/27. AFC 10+. Started stims (300iu Follistim, 150iu Menopur) 11/8.
Trigger 11/18 (7 follies). ER 11/20: 9R, 1M, 1F. 3dt of my one 6-cell embie on 11/23: BFN.

Dec. 2012: Hail Mary IUI cycle with leftover IVF meds: BFN.

Feb. 2013: IVF #3: Estrogen priming protocol.
Pre-AF: estro patch + ganirelix. AFC 8-10. Started stims (450 Follistim, 150 Menopur) 1/28.
Added ganirelix 2/4. Combined Lupron/HCG trigger 2/10 (6-ish follies).
ET 2/12: 6R, 1M, 1F w/rescue ICSI. My embie didn't make it. :-(

July 2013: DE IVF #1

PAIF/SAIF/PA35 welcome.

Sounds like you are in just the right place.  The ladies here are incredibly knowledgable and supportive.  A good number of posters have blog links in their siggies.  I found it very insightful to read about others experiences with IVF before and during my cycle.  Good luck to you!

RE is recommending IVF but we want to start with IUI. DH was unwilling to pursue treatment until 7/21/12.

Sorry you have to be here, but welcome to the group!

If you haven't checked it out yet, resolve.org is a good website for information and support.  I have attended one of my local Resolve support groups and it was so nice to be able to talk to other ladies going through similar issues.

Me: 31, PCOS (insulin resistance) TTC since 05/11. DH: 31 Great SA after multivitamins and diet improvements 6/25 IUI #1 cancelled IVF #1 w/ICSI on 8/23 CANCELLED due to ovulation. IVF #1.2 BFN 11/6 3 snowbabies. FET #1 12/20. Beta 12/31-BFFN FET #2 scheduled for 6/12. Everyone WELCOME!!

Thanks everyone for all the welcome messages! I appreciate it. As one by one pretty much all my friends have become pregnant (and pregnant again), I feel lonelier and angrier. My husband and I do talk about it a lot, but I think it's a little different for him than me. Our furbabies do bring us lots of comfort however!

Me (37) DH (39); Finally correctly diagnosed with DOR in 2012; Started TTC 2009; RE 2009/2010- RE cycle #1 clomid+ ovidrel + TI = BFN; RE cycle #2 clomid + ovidrel + TI=BFN; RE cycle #3 femara + ovidrel + IUI= BFN; RE cycle #4 75iu follistim + ovidrel + IUI= BFN; RE cycle #5 150iu follistim + ovidrel + IUI = BFN ; Took a break and had Weight loss surgery in 2011, back to new RE in 2012 ; AMH 0.43 IVF #1 /ICSI and AH; MDL protocol - ER 2/11 5R, 3M, 2F Three day transfer of 8 cell grade 3 and 8 cell grade 2 embryos. BFN. RPL testing shows homo MTHFR and hetero PAI-1. IVF #2 antagonist-ER 5/14 8R 6M 5F. Three day transfer of 3 embies. 6 cell grade 3, 4 cell grade 2, 5 cell grade 3. Beta #1 at 11dp3dt is 190, Beta #2 at 13dp3dt is 363. U/S scheduled for June 13. In shock and so very hopeful. U/S showed 2 heartbeats in same placenta measuring 113 and 115 bpm.
