chemo and hospital stays

My coworker's son is 2 1/2 and was just diagnosed with a very rare blood disorder. He's been in the hospital since Thanksgiving night. He's had 2 or 3 rounds of chemo. After the holidays if he's out of the hospital he'll go back every Tuesday for chemo for a year. He's still having difficulty breathing and has been in and out of ICU. I want to get him a care package that he can use in the hospital to keep himself busy. What are somethings he can have in the hospital and have during chemo? I was thinking of one of those water color books that has a pen you fill with water. Anything else I should include? I feel so bad for her and I'm not sure how I can help.

Crayoloa makes mess free markers.  Basically it is a small kit of a coloring book and markers that can only be used on the paper.

Aquadoodle has coloring pages that go with the water filled pens.  We have a bunch of Sesame Street ones and DD2 is going through an Elmo phase so they are great.  Maybe some stickers and a sticker book. A few little hot wheels type cars. I have girls but my nephews are 3 and 4 and they have been into cars, trucks and trains for as long as I can remember.

Do they have a DVD player?  Maybe a movie or video of his fave show?  A puzzle is always a hit with my kids.  Target has some 12 and 24 piece ones that are pretty cheap.  If he has no dietary restrictions, I might add in some treats - fruit snacks, small chocolates or something fun like that.

Carson Henry, born 39w, 2d via emergency c/s due to no fetal movement and fetal distress. Seizures 6 hours after birth. Complete clot in the brachial artery in his right arm. IVH grade 2. Brain, kidney and liver injuries. 27 day NICU stay. At 2 years, has been discharged from nearly all specialists (kidneys will continue to be monitored). Tough little guy who defied his grim prognosis and is going great!
