Temporal thermometers

Dd has been fussy off and on today. She was at work with me for our Christmas party and I figured she was grumpy because there were a lot of loud people around. Checked her temp with the temporal when we got home and it was 100.1. I thought I read somewhere that with the temperal thermometer you should subtract a degree. Is this correct?

Yes I believe the temporal reads higher for infants. You can also try the underarm temp.

I have one of these and anytime it seems high, I check my son's temp again with a regular thermometer under the arm just to be sure.

Temporal thermometers aren't great. I watched a whole report comparibg different kinds when i was still pregnant.

Go with the tried and true mercury ones in the bum for best accuracy or the new digital ones rectal will always be most accurate.

I've been told temporal and forehead thermometers aren't accurate before 1 year. When we picked LO up from the NICU they were doing her temp under the arm and said new studies show it's as accurate as rectal. The ER and our pedis office all do it under the arm.

It's funny, we have a temporal and it's right on the with his temp. I always take his temp rectal and have tried the temporal just because to compare and they ate very, very close.
