Selling nursery furniture - how much?

So before we buy DD's new bedroom set, we should try to sell her nursery furniture.  My MIL bought it for her and she paid about $2000 for the entire set - crib, armoire, and changing table with hutch.  It's dark cherry wood, very sturdy (not that I'm an expert but just compared to the babies' nice nursery furniture, DD's is what I could call very nice), in really good condition.  I was just looking at it and I honestly can't see any damage anywhere.  We are going to post it on an employee forum at DH's work where people post random stuff for sale, he has access to it from home.  But we can't agree on a price.  I think we could get $800-$900 for the set.  He thinks we should just price it to sell, like $500.  Am I being unrealistic? I agree that we want it to sell so the price has to be reasonable and it is 3 years old. But $500 seems too low. What do you ladies think?  DH said we could put whatever price tag I want, he just doesn't think it will sell for $800-$900 and we'll end up lowering the price anyway so why not just start low and save time.

I probably wouldn't sell the crib myself. They changed the safety rules for crib testing and if your crib hasn't been tested and approved meeting the new standards, I'd be too nervous to sell it, even if it's probably fine.

That being said, I'd sell the rest of it for $500.

Oh absolutely not. It is a lifetime crib, if that makes a difference. My MIL purchased it at BRU 3.5 years ago.

Then why don't you start at $800 and see if you have any takers? You can always lower the price later.

I really think $800 may be on the cheap side.  I would post it and put links to the pieces brand new on it as well, so people can compare quality & price.  I sold our crib alone for $75 and that was about 1/2 the price we bought it new.

If they still sell the same crib at Babies R Us maybe price it out with any discounts/coupons and sell it for 1/2 the price.

I agree with your husband.  Even if it's really nice, I just don't think anyone would spend 800-900 on used baby furniture.  I would list it at 500 or 600 if you are serious about selling it or you might not get any calls.

I think 800 for all that is a bargain, list it high and lower it if you don't have any takers.

This. Do you need the funds immediately? If not, then I think you have nothing to lose going this route.  However, if you need the funds immediately then go with the $500 (or maybe you both meet in the middle).

This.  I would suggest listing it for 1/3 or 1/4 of the new price.  I had a gorgeous Baby's Dream Kathryn crib for DS1, my mom spent almost $600 on just the crib, I was finally able to sell it on CL for $150 and it was in excellent condition.
