Is this a bad choice for a middle name?

Hi ladies!

So I am TTC #2... we have a little red-headed daughter named Aislin, who is 6.  We've been thinking of names for both boys and girls, and my husband really wants our son's middle name to be Christopher, after him.  (My daughter's middle name is my middle name, so he thinks it's only fair.)  Anyway, so the boy's middle name is set.  But I really really wanted his middle name be Jeffrey, after my brother, who died 5 years ago in a house fire.

So I was looking through a baby book and saw Jeffrey listed under the Girls names.  It means peaceful, or sparkling personality - which fits my brother perfectly.

Would it be weird to have my daughter's middle name be Jeffrey?  I think it's kinda cute!  Would she grow up and be teased for having a "boy" middle name?  I think it goes really well with the first name we've picked out...but my husband just isn't sure it's a good idea.  I just really love the idea of meaningful middle names...and naming my next child after my brother is as meaningful as it gets for me...

Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks!
Alaina

Eh, she might be teased a little but who cares? She'll be teased over something else no matter what. Boy names for girls is nothing new. Robin and Morgan were boy names not long ago, and I have heard Ryan and Dylan are now more common for girls than boys. Riley, Payton... I could go on. I have seen girls named Elliott and Spencer and even James around the Bump. Jeffrey as a middle name is not a big deal at all if you ask me.

Then again, my middle name is Fred...

I love family names! That said, I don't care for boys names on girls... But it is a very popular thing to do at the moment Si I don't think she would be teased.

I teach school and can tell you that most kids don't know each other's middle names. I think Jeffery would be fine for a girl.  If you do have a boy could you do Jeffery Christopher so that you both get the name you want?

Thank you so much for everyone's insightful comments!!  I really appreciate all your input.  I feel so much better about the middle name now!!  I really thought it would be special.  My brother was my best friend and I miss him more than I can say.  Having a child named after him would be so meaningful to me and my family.  Thank you everyone!!! :)

Thank you so much for your input! My husband is not wild about using Jeffrey as a first name.  I think it might also be hard for me to call my son "Jeff" and use his name every day... a middle name would be easier for me I think.  But thank you so much!

Would your DH consider a double middle name? Im usually not a fan but I think if your H won't let go of Christopher so you can honor your late brother I think you should consider a double MN. He should also keep in mind that both kids have his last name already (or at least I assume). I think Jeffrey would be fine as a MN for a girl...I think anything goes for the MN spot.

This is a great idea! My daughter has a double middle name. I too am not a fan of it "just because", but it means a lot to us.

Charlotte was adopted and she had a different name at birth, first and middle. We chose Charlotte because I had a dream it was her name, and Claire is her first middle name because it is DH's favorite girl name. We kept her original middle name as her second middle name, so now she has a name chosen by mommy, daddy, and her birthparents.

I'm not crazy about Jeffrey for a middle name on a girl, but because of the significance for you, I think it's very sweet and a beautfiul way to honor your brother. I would go for it.

This is a really beautiful idea - thank you!  And thank you for sharing your story!  I also tell DH that - our daughter and future daughter/son have his last name, so I don't think he should be so adamant about using his first name as a MN.  Thank you for all your input!

I think it's a lovely tribute to your brother, on either sex.

But my kid's MN is Pterodactyl so take my opinion for what it's worth...

I love the idea of a special, meaningful, middle name.  Even most adults don't know each other's middle names unless they are good friends, and this could be a good future icebreaker for her.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like your brother trumps your husband's middle name jealousy in this case.

Pterodactyl! What inspired that?
