Honestly, most forms of pneumonia aren't contagious to begin with (rather, it's very very difficult for them to be communicable to other people), especially if you are otherwise young(er) and healthy. Also, if he was in the hospital, he likely received a round of antibiotics there, and therefore was "non contagious" (if he ever WAS contagious) before he even got discharged. But yes, to answer your question, if you are not contagious, there is nothing wrong with being out amongst the general populace.
