Back sleeping

So I read in my book today that you shouldn't sleep on your back but I always wake up on my back. Are you ladies having the same issue?

I sleep on my back at some point every night. Honestly, that is sometimes the only position I sleep in comfortably for an extended period of time, but as soon as I get uncomfortable I roll over to my side. I have read and heard that you shouldn't sleep on your back once you reach 20 weeks.

Yep! My OB said I need to ly on my side as from 20 weeks but not to be concerned if I wake on my back. All about blocking an artery of blood supply to the LO ut she said it is a new thing and babies have been born for centuries so not to lose sleep over it

I think it's kind of a myth.  Your body will tell you if you shouldn't be lying on your back (my back hurts like crazy if I try to fall asleep on it, but I will wake up on my back even if I prop myself up).

Side is best, but some of the YOU HAVE TO business is kind of exaggerated.

It's fine to sleep on your back, especially now. Sure, a side is more beneficial, but not a requirement. What you should do is sleep however you're comfortable enough to sleep. I slept/woke up on my back even in late pregnancy last time because it was the only position that didn't KILL my hips. This time, my hips are already aching badly at night and I have to be in my back for at least some of the time.

The issue is with the weight if the baby cutting off blood blow to your legs. You'd feel it if that was happening. Trust your body and do what's comfortable!

I'm still sleeping on my stomach and dreading the day my body lets me know I shouldn't do it anymore. I won't purposely avoid sleeping in a certain position until its uncomfortable and obvious that I need to switch.

I also wake up on my back a lot but am not worrying about it yet.
I've found on nights I use my snoogle it helps me stay on my side, I think I'll be using it more later on so that should be helpful!

Last time, I asked the midwife about it, and she said that you will wake up if there is an issue - nausea, etc. At a certain point, it will probably be uncomfortable to sleep on your back...and any position, for that matter.

Definitely this - I'm waiting for my body to inform me when what I'm doing isn't "good" for me anymore!
