househunting funnies and check-in

I seriously wish I could post/link to these pics I find, but I'm looking on a site for military families and you have to have an account.

My most recent finds:

An immaculate home, perfectly staged with lovely furniture...from the 1950s. Lovely grandma house. (It was actually really nice, but the furniture cracked me up.)

And the best one - three photos of the house: the outside, the semi-decent kitchen...and a great shot of the brown shag carpet in the living room. Niiiiice.

The biggest bust for me was looking more closely at a picture on a house I really liked - pretty sure the dishwasher was in a side room off of the kitchen, not in the kitchen itself. Bizarre, eh? It was obviously added much later, judging from the lovely 1950s kitchen tile. The thing that made me start analyzing the pics more was that it's been available since October, and the best houses seem to be snatched up pretty quickly.

Who else is still house-hunting? Any good finds recently? Any luck? I've started sending messages to landlords/property managers, and it's starting to feel real. I found a couple that I really like and wish I could take a trip to go check them out and sign a lease if they fit our needs. I'm afraid all of the good ones will be snatched up before I get out there.

We're still house hunting, but nothing has changed since around thanksgiving. We haven't even had a showing since then and we were having them weekly.

I think it's pretty common for the market in the Midwest to come to a screeching halt this time of year.

That stinks, but I can imagine why the market comes to a halt around this time of year. I have to say that moving at Christmas is pretty awful. I don't know why anyone would choose to move right now without a good reason.

Hopefully you'll get some showings after the new year.

Yeah, January is considered "spring" for this area in the real estate market! So there will be a lot more properties for sale in the next few weeks.

The photos deemed acceptable for online posting shock me. I mean, you of course must use your imagination to look past people's personal stuff, but if there is outright filth, I won't even consider it.

I found a few that look really great online, but I'm not familiar with our new area, so I can't commit to anything until I actually get out there and drive around a bit. I use Google Maps street view as much as I can to get a feel for it, and ask questions in a FB group for other military spouses in that area. I'm just hoping the few I like don't get snatched up before I can get out there.
