Worst Mom of the Year

I've probably earned the worst mom of the year award. Sad

LO has been home for a week now after being 7 weeks early and spending 22 days in the NICU. He has to eat every 3 hours per the doctors orders to keep his weight and other things on track.

I've always been afraid I wouldn't hear my baby because I sleep through anything! Everyone always said I would sleep differently once baby was here and there would be no way I'd sleep through the cries. And that's probably true, except that my baby doesn't really cry... He fusses.

Several times this week DH has had to wake me up because it was time for the baby to eat and I was sleeping through his fussing. We even started setting an alarm to wake us up. Apparently, we slept through the alarm and his fussing last night. He was due to eat at 3:30 and we didn't wake up until 4:30. I feel horrible! I know he was fussing that whole time... Sad Poor guy... I've been trying to make up for it with extra cuddles today.

Anyone else care to admit their less than stellar mom of the year moments?

Finally pregnant through the miracle of embryo adoption after 3 1/2 years TTC. One angel in heaven: 2/23/2010. Adopted 6 embryos in September 2011. FET with 2 perfect embryos on 4/26/2012. Beta #1 (12dp5dt): 315 Beta #2 (14dp5dt): 714 Beta #3 (16dp5dt): 1909 U/S 5w4d: One perfect little bean. Ecstatic to be pregnant; but sad that one of our embies joined his/her sibling in heaven. U/S 6w5d: HR was 123 bpm; absolutely perfect!

D generally has a 3 hour sleep stretch followed by a 60-90 minute sleep stretch at night.  We change his diaper at the beginning of his 3 hour stretch. Then after 3 hours he starts to fuss but doesn't fully wake up. He will eat for about 5-8 minutes and then be in a deep sleep again.  Sometimes I don't change his diaper before that short sleep cycle. If I do he gets fully awake and takes an hour to get back to sleep.  So sometimes at night he stays in his diaper for 4.5 hours.  One night he tricked me and did two long sleep cycles and it was 6 hours before we did a diaper change.

Sometimes when he spits up, I don't change his outfit right away. He seems to spit up in cycles. So I wait until he gets the hiccups and then change his swaddle blankets/clothing. Once he gets the hiccups he stops spitting up. Before when I changed him every time I was having to do 2-3 full loads of laundry just for his stuff a day. Now its one load a day.

Even though I don't sleep through the fussiness of LO waking up, I do what PP said. I change her diaper Before I feed her at night time. That way when she falls asleep at the book don't disturb her with changing her diaper. Well she sleeps for 6 hours as her big stretch. So essentially her diaper doesn't get changed during that Time. Usually it's just a little wet anyways but still makes me feel horrible. :/

Fussing isn't a bad thing, don't feel bad about it. You were only an hour late with a scheduled feeding and you don't KNOW that he was fussing for all that time or even fussing at all. I know you probably need to be more rigid than most with feedings since he was a preemie, but give yourself a break. There's no need to make it up to him, he is absolutely fine.

Newborn crying is pretty quiet - don't worry, they get louder, LOL! But how about using a monitor to help you hear him? Even if he's in the same room, a monitor would make his fussing louder and should wake at least one of you.

Don't worry yourself about the little things! Earlier this week DH strapped DD2's legs into the lap part of the car seat belt. If we'd wrecked she would have lost her legs. We drove all over town with her like this... I could not even get mad at him for this mistake, because one time when DD1 was about 5 months old I forgot to strap her in to the car seat and actually got about 5 miles down the road before I remembered to stop and strap her into the pumpkin seat. Things happen.

N was a preemie and I did the same thing when we came home from the NICU. I set alarms and then would sleep through them. I felt awful about but it was ok. He is now 10 weeks old (age adjusted 4 weeks old) and a little over 8 lbs. He started at 3 lbs 10 oz.

I get the award for lightest sleeper in existence and dh gets one for heaviest. My kids fart in another room or breath out of rhythm and i wake up.Ds screams bloody, im friggin starving, murder and dh i contiues to snore without missing a beat! I envy u.That bein said, you are not a terrible mother. Its just an adjustment that you are going to have to make. Maybe put lo closer to ur bed and turn ur alarm up a little louder? Good luck ::hugs::

I fall asleep while feeding dd sometimes. I am terrified she is going to get smothered by my boobs.

You are not a horrible mother, when you are sleep deprived you can't always control your sleep.

If this is the worst thing you ever do to your kid you'd probably deserve a medal. The other day I was holding LO and she pooped. I got distracted by something put her down and took a shower and totally forgot to change her. My short term memory is awful these days and she sat in poop cause her mom's a flake.
