I need some fresh ideas. My son's name is Derek and means "ruler of the people". My last name means something in this same realm (as in a leader or ruler).
I think it would be cool to have another name with a similar meaning for this baby. I love Ryan, which fits meaning wise (Little King) but DH vetoes it.
What can you think of? Or any random suggestions for Derek's brother (clearly Eric is not going to fly). We have a rather normal sounding last name.
Frederick means peaceful ruler
Henry - "home ruler"
Conrad - "brave, counsel"
Solomon - "the king of Israel"
Abram - "high father"
Donald means "ruler of the world."
Harold means "leader of the army."
Theodoric means "ruler of the people." Though Derek is actually a form of this name.
Walter means "ruler of the army."
Alexander means "defender of mankind."
Magnus!
It dates back to when Charlemagne was called Carolus Magnus, Charles the Great. (according to Nameberry).
Roy - king
Leroy - the king
NMS for a baby but I've always wanted to name a dog Leroy.
I've been using that search feature on babynames...nothing strikes me. The names I do like, DH vetoes. Example - Alex but only because our next door neighbor has a kid named Alex. A lot of the names listed are just not our style and thats what I am finding with names with this meaning.
Oh we'll keep looking. Its just a shame that DH dislikes some of the really good options!
I really like Ryan, especially with Derek. That's too bad DH doesn't like it!

I named a stray cat that used to hang out on my fire escape Leroy.
I like Regina for a girl so I'll vote for Reginald for a boy. Derek and Reggie are both great baseball names too...an added bonus if you are a fan.
