outgrowing swaddle

hi,

my LO doesn't mind being swaddled, but i'm starting to notice him kicking his legs out of the blanket at night. he is getting too big for the swaddle blankets we have (where his legs are constrained, and they velcro around his chest). whats my next step?  he isn't rolling over just yet if that factors in.

is this what the purpose of sleep sacks are for?  how do you dress your LO's for sleep if they are not swaddled?

We haven't swaddled since LO was about 4 weeks old.

She wears her sleeper and a sleep sack to bed.

We use the Halo sleepsack swaddle.  They sell them at Target and there are different sizes.  You can keep arms in, one arm out or both arms out.  Our LO is 6 months old and she loves to be swaddled!  We keep both arms out and she sleeps like a champ!

Mine was swaddled until about 4 months, and then she started breaking free at night and waking herself up!  I started not swaddling during naps to give her some practice and then eventually moved to the sleep sack.  Now she's just fine and can put herself back to sleep by sucking on her hands!  I didn't find the transition to be as difficult as I thought it would be!

Our DS has never been swaddled and he always just wears his sleep and play pjs to bed. We've never done a sleep sack.

We are on night 3 of no swaddle. We are using the Magic Sleep Suit and it works great! I highly recommend it as a transition out of swaddling.

We use the Halo sleep sack now instead of swaddling DD with a blanket.

Def try out the sleep sack!  Our LO is 5 months and can def do without but with it being so cold out this time of year, and she does just fine.  We are not ready yet to leave her on her own to sleep with a blanket.  She loves it because she can still kick around yet feel secure.

Since it's getting cooler, he wears a fleece sleeper. No sleep sack. We ditched the swaddle a couple of weeks ago, when he rolled over in it.

My little guy outgrew his swaddle sacks as well. Now I put in in a sleep sack and wrap his arms down with a receiving blanket. Here is a video demonstrating it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JiHCWEF-GI

What I like about this also is that if he happens to roll over in the night, his arms can get free as the blanket will no longer be pinned underneath him, but if he lays on his back, his body weight keeps his arms locked at his sides.

Thanks for asking this. My 3 month old is starting to break out of his Velcro swaddle at night. He's never napped with a swaddle, so I think I'm going to try a sleep sack soon.

I bought a halo sleepsack because my DD would always break out of blankets. She has always hated being swaddled. But right around 3 months she REALLY hated it and would always break out of the halo so easily. So now I keep her in the sleepsack but let her go with her hands free. It took a few days for her to get used to sleeping with her arms free but she got used to it.
