s or z???

We are stuck on how to spell one of our possible middle names, and would really appreciate your input ladies!

Alonso with an s, or Alonzo with a z??

I have known 4 and 3 were with an S and 1 with a Z, I think I'd prefer it with the S but I would consider both right

Thanks ladies! It seems that the s is the Spanish way, and the z the more Americanised version, and both correct. Which is not helping us at all on which to go with, given that we currently live in Spain, but have English as the first language at home!

Our last name begins with an X, by the way, which makes the s odd phonetically, and the z odd visually :

I think it depends on how you want it pronounced. I naturally go with the Z sound but think either is correct.

I would do the s, but I prefer more traditional spellings.  Especially if you live in Spain and/or are Spanish.

I don't really have a preference personally, so I looked up the rank of each name and Alonzo was more popular (when it's just the spelling I tend to prefer the more common one because there's less confusion - I grew up as someone with a name that isn't spelled in the most common way and it has always been annoying to me), so I'd go with that one unless you're naming him after a family member who spells it with an S.

Thanks ladies!

My name is spelled in a way that usually gets misspelled and pronounced as well, depending on the country i live in, so thats not really a criteria for us.

Sometimes it does get annoying, but it also makes my name stand out, which can def be an advantage with applications and in business!
