we need new sippys and my kids seem to prefer straw cups - any recs? We have some cutesie ones from Target (the Easter ones) and 1st years but I don't love either (they both get pressurized and the milk will come out the straw just sitting there).

Transition out of bottles?

DS has done great with the WCM transition and does great with his sippy. He will drink milk out of it during the day but not during "designated bottle times" ie when he wakes up and before bed. I keep offering and trying not to push the situation but realistically how long should this take? I just keep envisioning him at like 5 years old still drinking out of a bottle lol!

Dry Morning Diapers

The past 2 or 3 mornings DH and I have noticed that DD's overnight diaper is barely wet anymore. They used to be soaked and heavy and now just have a small amount of wetness in them. Is this a natural part of growing up and not peeing in the night? Or something wrong?

Fever and teething

I noticed that Ds had fevers 2 nights in a row, and then a new tooth popped up on the second day. Did anyone else notice fevers in LO before a new tooth comes in?

I know fevers are related to teething but was curious how soon the new tooth comes following the fever.

So DS just had his first birthday...things went as smoothly as possible for his birthday (on Thursday) and the party.

Some background info:

My first cousin has twin boys. I went to their first birthday last year and even though I wan't invited to the party this year, I still sent them a present (this was in March). If I hadn't seen my cousin at a funeral, I doubt I would even know they received their gift.

My second cousin has three boys and I have been to every birthday for them (they are 6, 3, and 1).

Since DH's and my parents are divorced it made it impossible to invite extended family to his party, so my first cousin who lives 1.5 hours away weren't invited (not that they would have come anyway--they haven't come to anything I have invited them to in 5 years) and my second cousin was "unoffially" invited (he has a brother and a sister that I didn't invite) purely out of the fact that I do not have the space to invite everyone and I explained that to them. It ended up being a party of almost 30 people and I really wanted to keep the party small, which was impossible after grandparents and aunts/uncles and godparents were invited.

So after all that background the reason I am upset is that there wasn't any acknowledgment of DS's birthday other than a like to my status on facebook, not even a card. I drove 1.5 while pregnant to go to the first cousin's party and sent a gift for the second birthday, and went to all the other parties for my other cousin, and DS doesn't even get a crappy card--well I've had enough of this crap--I get flack from my family because I live "far" away and don't come to visit, but when I do I have to make it convenient for them. I drive 1.5 hours and then they want me to travel around the city to see everyone--not ok! I'm not going to go out of my way to do nice stuff for them anymore. I'm going to save the money I would spend on their kids and spend it on DS instead.

And it is not about the present, like I said a card (even an e-card which is free). Just the acknowledgement is all! It is just so aggravating that I spend the time and money on them and get no respect in return!

Cow's milk

Anyone else's LO not liking cows milk? Are you concerned about it?

My DS takes sips of it. Every so often he'll drink maybe half a sippy cup full.

The pedi told me that he needs two 4 oz cups a day. But she said he can get his dairy servings from yogurt and cheese too.

But I'm nervous because my DS doesn't seem to like the milk very much. I always try to offer milk before water.

ETA He does enjoy drinking water so I'm not concerned about dehydration.

Is this teething?

DD had four teeth and so far I don't see anymore coming, but her behavior has me worried. She's been doing so pretty random screaming. Like, blood curdling screams, when there is no apparent cause. DH thinks its teething and we give her Tylenol but it doesn't always seem to help. I'm just unsure because she never screamed like that when her first teeth came in, she just got kind of fussy. Is this normal? Should I take her to the doctor? Maybe it's something else?

DD just took her first few steps! Out of nowhere! She also cut her first two teeth 5 days ago.

Birthday Party

For the moms that have already had their LO birthday party what are some things you wish you thought of or that you would have done differently? I am getting ready for Alex's birthday and I'm getting anxious about it. I already had friends of MIL ask to come that I wasnt expecting which is great more people that love DS the better but with the list I was expecting already doubled. I was thinking of doing cheeseburgers, pasta salad, chips, watermellon, smash cake for Alex and cupcakes for the adults. I feel like I need more food maybe like some jello etc?

First time being sick...

A week short of her first birthday, my LO finally caught a bug. I thought we were so lucky getting through the winter without any ear aches, flu, etc., but apparently I jinxed it. She woke yesterday with a 101 fever. We had a friend who is a nurse come by our house and said her ear canals were really red as well. My husband took her early this morning to her pedi and all she said was, "It's just a virus, let it run its course". I feel so helpless.

What are ways you have helped your LO through their sickness?

I just lurked on the June 2013 board specifically to look at the HBDB posts. I miss being pregnant so bad! I'd love to be pregnant again, but I am just not ready to have another baby. Argh!! I LOVE the little threesome we have with DS, but boy do I wish I was pregnant.

Although, I still have yet to have a PP period, so it really isn't even an option at this point! We decided we'd wait until DS is at least 2 to TTC again, but both of us retained the right to change our minds!

I know there are quite a few June mamas pregnant again, and at least one that already has number two, how was/is pregnancy this time around? Totally different? Similar? Harder? Easier?

About a month ago I posted in a thread about nighttime nursing and DH doing nighttime with DS when I work overnight shifts and you mentioned that you'd be curious to see what happens.

Here's an update for you!

After doing three nights in a row, DS stopped waking up as much. He's up once around 3am and then around 6am (he will nurse back to sleep until around 7:30am).

On nights when I'm not home, he's only up once around 3am and will sleep straight until 7:30am. I personally believe, it's because when he wakes at 3am he gets a bottle and isn't interested in it again. He barely even takes an ounce when DH does nighttime duties!!!

Being back to work with different shift times makes me appreciate nighttime nursing, although I can't say I miss getting up every couple of hours. I'm not trying to actively night wean and one or two wakeups is totally manageable for me, and one is obviously very manageable for DH.

Of course I can't say for sure if DH doing nighttime has contributed to DS waking less frequently, but it seems that way (considering he's up even less when DH does nighttime).

Just thought I'd let you know how it's going!

Need help figuring this out

So I don't post often but my son was born on June 28th last year, and I lurk here often and the suggestions have always been great.

I have two issues that I'm out of ideas for:

So we have been blessed with a great scheduled sleeper, until 2 weeks ago. In the last two weeks he will go to bed after his last bottle like usual around 8ish but then within an hour like clock work he is awake again crying. We try to sooth him back to sleep in his room, but he won't calm down until we leave his room. Once I bring him downstairs he falls asleep in my arms again. Sometimes right away, sometime an hour or so later. Then he may do it again once or twice throughout the night, and we have to go through the same process.

I have tried feeding him, which some nights helps, but I don't want him to get used to a middle of the night feeding. We haven't done that since he was 12 weeks old. I have tried letting him cry it out, which only makes him more upset.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. I was thinking it may just be a growth spurt and he'll settle down soon, but its been two weeks.

Any suggestions??

2) My son has what I call routine sinus/ ear infections, meaning he gets them every six weeks or so since he was four months old. We have been on antibiotics more times than I can count, and still he gets them. Each time he gets one he vomits daily (one time a day, not all day long), which we thought was due to the drainage, but now we are noticing he does it sometimes when he does not have a sinus infection. We have been to an ENT, and he said he is very healthy. I am thinking we need an allergist, but wanted to see if anyone else's child is having this type of problem. We have asked our pediatrician, and tried multiple medications and he doesn't know what is causing the vomiting.

MIL vent

Seriously my MIL gave me a serious heart attack. She was in a parking space playing with DS when she pulls up to me about 20-30 ft away I open the passanger side door and guess who is sitter there in the front seat instead of his carseat! I love my MIL but I was so mad I couldnt even say anything and will have to have DH call her and say he cannot ride any where but his carseat. Especially while we are getting tornado warnings.

I have a one year old! I've been spending all day thinking a year ago a this time, this was happening, a year right now she was here... Well as of 2:52 pm PST, she was officially here....

We spent the day at a park, walking in the harbor, went to go get her a cupcake for tonight , we played, read a story and then we have family pictures and dinner later this afternoon. Her party is on the 22nd. Truly can't believe HOW FAST this year has gone by :( Feeling so incredibly blessed today!

If you have a climber

Raise your hand!

OMG - this girl is going to give me grey hairs! She's been climbing on the couch for a while but in the last week I caught her trying to climb over the stair gate (it's at the bottom of the stairs) and we got a swing set where apparently she can climb up the slide and ladder.

They also said at DC that she pushed a bucket over and was trying to climb up onto the counter where they were getting lunch ready. Oh, and tried to climb the chain link fence. I love that she's getting confident and independent but FFS kid!
