DD finally had her checkup and shots today... she was 6mo on the 11th. she's in 70 percent for weight. 60 percent for height. and 95 percent for head size!!! haha. both my girls have really big heads! what's up with that?!

I wrote the post last night about my sons Hypospadias repair. I realized that I did not introduce myself or my son! My sons name is Alexander James. We call him Xander. He was born November 19 by C-Section. I am a recent stay at home mom. I did work as an Electrician for my Uncle and I loved it but was able to work out a deal so that I could stay home with my DS for 6 months after his surgery and am loving that also. I hope to get to know you ladies a lot better now that I will have time to post. I have been a long time lurker and am excited to finally join in with you guys.

Btw Xander is doing much better today. I dont even think he realizes that he had surgery. He was a mess yesterday evening but I think a lot of that had to do with him cming off of the anasthesia. He just didnt understand why he was feeling so drowsy and foggy. They did prescribe him some really good pain meds so that may have something to do with why he is so happy today lol.

Cj had his 6 month appointment today and I was surprised to see that while he grew 4 inches in 2 months, he fell from the 25th to the 10th percentile in weight. Anyone else's Los have weight slow down around this time? He eats a ton around 5 oz every 3 to 4 hours based on daycare and my supply seems fine I pump easily at work. I'm just a little bummed. We just started solids and the dr. Wants him eating more real food and prescribed multivitamins. we were BLW I really didn't want to do purees but now I'm nervous he isn't getting enough. I should also add that he was preemie 4 weeks early and jumped from not on charts to 25th percentile by 2 months. Maybe things are just leveling out?

Holiday Weekend

What are you doing for the holiday weekend?

I am taking a half day today and then spending the rest of the weekend with my DH and A. We might have family visit, but no one has said a definite yes or no yet. I am just excited to finally walk down to the lake with both the baby AND DH. He has been working so much lately that me and A have been taking long walks with just the 2 of us. It'll be nice to go as a family. Plus, 3 DAY WEEKEND!! And of course remembering all of those whose lives have been lost serving our country. If I ever lost loved ones in the military I don't know what I would do. )))HUGS((( to all those who have a brave angel(s) somewhere!

Daycare holiday pay

We have kind of a different childcare situation because my friend is a SAHM, and she keeps her two children, plus my LO, plus one more while I work. She normally watches him Monday through Thursday.

Should I pay her for Monday even though it's a holiday? I don't know how holidays are supposed to work. I feel weird asking her. Do daycare places make you pay for holidays?

My head had just hit the pillow when Benjamin woke up. He's been doing great lately too. Snuggled rocked and sang for 20 minutes with no success. So I gave him a bottle. He was so sweetly and sleepily talking to himself when I left the room. No sooner had my head hit the pillow again than he was screaming. And I mean screaming. I think it's his teeth. He doesn't have a dirty diaper, belly is full. Gave him some Tylenol which I don't like doing. But hopefully I'm right and this helps. Right now I'm rocking and he's talking up a storm. Oh boy.

my fiend is having a baby in Oct. and she hosted my shower at her house and I offered to host her shower this summer. She accepted and has another friend who is going to co-host with me

There are a few things going on:

1 - Im trying to move soon and we're not sure when but it could be this summer so I dont want to have it at my house in case we move. The mom-2-b offered to have it at her own house in her backyard...does that seem weird? would you be ok with that?

2 - the mom-2-b is toying with the idea of having a couples shower, I think its a terrible idea...most guys loathe that stuff and it doubles the amount of people which could get hectic since she's probably going to invite like 30 ppl. Do I tell her my opinion?

3 - the mom-2-b is insisting on paying for food and booze and I am totally against this. But I also cant afford to pay for everything if she has a couples party...do I let her help?

Swim Lessons?

I'm sorry, I'm not sure if we discussed this yet. Is anyone planning to sign LO up for swim lessons this summer? I live in AZ and we have a pool, so I am really wanting to do the swim lessons where they teach them to roll onto their backs and float to safety if they ever manage to fall in water. I haven't committed to any of them yet, but am looking in to it. I was curious if anyone else was planning on doing it as well? Has anyone with older children done it at a young age and did you like it?

So far LO isn't terribly thrilled about being in the water, so I was hoping if we did something like this it would make him feel more comfortable in the water.

The Alphabet Game (ABC's)

Daily (or weekly) we work through the alphabet. 5 questions/categories. All answers must begin with the letter of the day. (some minor exceptions will apply, such as possibly X)

Suggest questions. I've come up with some already, but looking for other ideas.

Ideas... Favorite name, strangest...xxx,... Any others?

~~ also, suggest daily (M-F or Sun-Sat) or weekly (which day) or totally random (whenever I or someone else feels like posting it, possibly when it's sloooooow) or never (cause no one would be interested in some more randomness in their lives)

Ear infections

So I'm a little frustrated with my doctor's office. I called there, but the nurses were not helpful.

LO has been pulling and swatting at his ear from time to time, but it is not red, there's nothing oozing out of it, he doesn't have a fever, and he doesn't seem in pain. When should I consider taking him to the doctor's office for an ear infection? The nurse just said, "If you suspect it, you should bring him in," but what would you ladies do?

Xander had his 6 month well check on Tuesday. He is 14lbs 15oz and 25" long. His Dr. said that he is only in the 9% for weight and not even on the chart for height! He has always been little. He was 6lbs and 4oz when he was born and 19" long. She said he is healthy and just a little guy. I am 5' 1" but my SO is 6' 4" lol I guess he is going to take after me. How big is your 6 month old?

I love my son. I really do. Most days I am so thankful for this amazing blessing, especially after the struggle with IF.

But today, was probably one of the worst days yet. I felt like he and I were both on an emotional roller coaster. I have no idea what was wrong. He was clingy and upset most of the day. I tried wearing, rocking, singing, dancing, pulling out new toys, and anything else that came to mind.

It did not help that he was up from 3-5am, and I had very little sleep because I was trying to do homework. I just wanted to curl into a ball and cry. I wanted to call my advisor and tell her I was dropping out. I questioned if I even need that stupid degree.

6pm could not come soon enough. I hope this is the 6 month growth spurt, or teething. Because I could not chant "this too shall pass" often enough today.

Baby Hair Theory? (Bio nerd-alert)

I've seen on here that lots of people have babies with LOTS of hair, and I've seen babies with lots of hair in every color... except blond(e). So, does anybody have a blondie with wig-like hair-thickness?

Different hair-colors developed based on populations' exposure to sunlight -- the more sun you're around, having darker hair (and skin, but that's another story) is more beneficial, because it protects you from sun-exposure. This is why places like Scandinavia have lots of blond(e) people -- it's cold and dark and they can use all the sunlight they can get.

Since it seems that the majority of babies with lots of hair have darker hair, I'm wondering if it's a related phenomenon, as in, it's more beneficial for dark-haired babies (those whose ancestors needed more sun-protection) to grow thick hair sooner.

Obviously this could be complete BS, as I don't have any real sample-size or anything... maybe the people with babies with lots of blond(e) hair just don't post pics on The Bump?
