DD is 12 months and we've suspected a dairy allergy since 6 months - she breaks out in hives if she even comes into contact with a dairy product, runny nose, itchy watery eyes, wheezing etc. Doc referred us to a specialist and her blood test results just came in - highly allergic to dairy and also dogs. Great that we have confirmation on dairy and I've come to terms with it over the past few months - sucks but it could be so much worse and we've already been changing our diet.

She has been a very sick baby so we've suspected something else. She's always sick and wheezing - doc thought it was asthma. Now the dog allergy totally makes sense since we have two golden retrievers. We are just heartbroken because they're our family too. We've had them for over 6 years and DD just loves them too. Does anyone have experience with this? We're trying Zyrtec, she's on a daily nebulizer, vacuuming/dusting a lot, keeping the dogs out of her room, got an air purifier. She's still wheezing and sneezing. Does it just take time or do we need to look at re-homing our dogs? We would like to try easier things first but we will do what's best for our daughter if it comes down to that. It breaks my heart seeing her so miserable but we're not the kind of people that just gets rid of their pets either. Is it accurate to say that DD will still feel the effects of the allergen even with all these precautions? She can't tell us and we don't have allergies so just trying to figure out how she's feeling.

Elecare

My son has just been switched to this formula (we were on nutramigen but have yet to have any luck). Wondering if anyone has had success with getting it covered by insurance. Also where to purchase that offers the best price? Some back info...grandma watched him today so I could get some things done around the house while dh was at work, and she couldn't get him to take an afternoon nap. So when I got him at 4, he'd been awake just over 5 hours. He fell asleep in the car on the way home but from the moment he woke up he was crying and screaming. After finally getting him calmed down after maybe an hour of this, he played happily. For like 5 minutes. Then it was like one big temper tantrum after the other with short periods of happy play in between. He'd writhe around, arch, thrash his arms around hitting me, bite my shoulder, smack himself in the face with his fist, and head bang. All while crying and/or screaming. I've never seen him like this.

We've been giving him yogurt for 6 days now at the direction of his GI nurse. This was the first step in his dairy challenge. Could it just be catching up to him? Or do you think we'd have seen a reaction already? He also had a runny nose and is a bit congested but I know that could be teething related or seasonal allergy related like dh and I get! I'm just at a loss. If this is normal 11.5 month old behavior, fine we will deal. But I hate wondering if it's his poor tummy!! Any ideas?

Can you cook with coconut milk?

I found a cake recipe I want to try for ds#2's birthday. It calls for soy milk, but ds can't have soy either. Does anyone know if coconut milk bakes well?

Any other LO's allergic to oatmeal?

It started back when I was BF'ing, and continued through his first tastes of solid food. I know with beef my symptoms hang around a day or two, but would that be the same for her?
Also when would you recommend seeing the allergist? She's six months so probably too early yet.

Help!! Does this ever happen?

I mean, the kid eats fried eggs with no reaction as far as I can tell, but then he gets a piece of cheese and it's eczema city. About 3 weeks ago, I introduced baked in dairy in Earth's Best Toddler's biscuit & then tried a spoon of the Plum Organic pouches that have yogurt mixed in. She was extremely gassy but otherwise seemed ok.

However, ever since I introduced this things (especially the hidden dairy & yogurt) she has had non-stop congestion. eye puffiness, & hacking cough. i thought at first it was seasonal allergies but now I am wondering if it has to do with the dairy. Would MSPI cause this type of reaction? There is no visible blood in the stool & besides very bad gas, she doesn't have diarrhea.

Sorry so long!
