Labor suite... WWJ13D?

So we're going for our 37 week appointment/birth center orientation later this afternoon, and I'm supposed to let them know which of the three suites I'd prefer to use (assuming it's available when I come in to deliver).

I'm soliciting opinions to help make up my mind! If you had to pick, would you want the one with a full-size bed, toilet, and regular sized tub/shower all together in one room? Or would you want the one with a full bed and ginormous jacuzzi tub in two separate rooms (you have to go briefly into the hallway to get from one to the other)?

I used the all-in-one room with our first, but spent most of the time in the tub, which was awfully small and not really great for position changes. I'm thinking the jacuzzi would be awesome to use instead (bigger, jets... maybe DH could be in there with me -- sounds great!). But I'm not really sold on actually delivering in the tub, so would have to climb out and walk to the other room when I was ready to push, and I don't see THAT being tons of fun.

Newborn bathing

I'm sure this will get covered before I leave the hospital, but how often do you bathe a newborn? And do you always bathe with soap, or just water?

Hi all! I've been a lurker for quite a while now, and I just read the 5.99 post. I have never joined or been part of a message board before, and had no idea there was an etiquette to it. I never realized that i was insulting you all in a way, and that was never my intention. I have enjoyed reading your threads and posts, and feel that I have learned so much from you all! I try to post supportive things and not just take without contributing. So, I'd like to at least introduce myself so you know who the hell i am! ;)

I am a FTM expecting a little girl, and I am currently 35 weeks, 6 days. I have GD and the baby Is SGA. I have another growth scan on Monday, so I'm hoping for some good news.

It started out in L and D and that is never the start of a great day! I woke up during the night having contractions... Bad ones... And I'm only 35 weeks. After a few hours they finally spaced out enough that I could go home. But only after an ultra sound that confirmed my placenta is still way too low for a vaginal delivery and I will have to schedule a cs which TERRIFIED me. I have to be super careful and report any signs of labor immediately because I am now considered high risk for hemorrhage if my water breaks.... So I left feeling defeated and scared and my husbands response was "i hope this doctor can hurry up I'm running late for work". He obvioisly was completely unaware of how upset i really was with my whole morning. :c Can someone just reach through my phone and hug me.... Thanks in advance

Mittens

So sitting here talking to my grandma and mentioned that I need to pick up a couple packs of mittens. She said"what's that for?" I tried to explain so they didn't scratch themselves etc, but she seemed like they were a waste of money. Is she being old school, or are mittens a thing of the past?

Anyone nervous about insertion of epi??

This is the thing I'm most freaked out about. There's no way in hell I'd have a baby without one; it was awesome last time. But actually getting it freaked me out a lot and I remember feeling it. They told me not to bounce back and hold still but I did on accident and I remember feeling it go in and it wasn't pleasant.

Did this happen to anyone else who has had an epi before? Are you nervous about the insertion process again? I hope I'm in the minority and this time it will go smoother and not freak me out so much. And I hope I can't feel it go in :S. It was worth it though, those pitocin contractions were a b****!

We're being induced early for medical reasons and at our appointment today we set the date! Looks like baby will arrive on or around July 3rd! We'll go in the evening of the 2nd to get things started and hopefully will progress enough for our ob to deliver on the 3rd. I'll be 37 weeks 4 days. I'm getting so excited to meet our little girl!

wwyd about dentist

I was eating dinner last night and bit into a watermelon seed. My tooth cracked where there was an old filling. The dentist wants to do a x-ray to see how far down the damage goes, I told him I'd come back after I spoke to my OB. It's not horribly painful, just when I bite on that side. I'm almost 38 weeks and my c-section is scheduled for the 27th of this month, so a little over a week away. I am so very hesitant of getting an x-ray this late in the game. My OB says to do it if I'm in pain and to make sure they double or triple apron me. Am I in pain? yes but it's very minimal and tolerable. What i'm afraid it will start to become worse and then I'll have to live with it and a newborn until I can make it to the dentist, and who knows how long that could be with a newborn and recovery. IDK, the dentist packed the tooth at the crack but it's a temporary fix. So WWYD? Wait/get it fixed?

For Moms that have "Dropped"

I am 34 weeks and not entirely sure if the baby has dropped so just wanting to ask you all if you have experienced this.

I am feeling more pressure and heaviness much lower, sitting has become much more of a slower process, but don't have the relief that I read I am supposed to have in my upper abdomen :( I have a long torso so I thought it would be more obvious when I started to drop...not so much!

Did any of you have more pressure associated with dropping without the relief?

Leaking clear fluid

I am 36 weeks and had a small gush of clear fluid, went to ld and they tested for amniotic leak, came back negative. They said it could be urine leaking but I could feel that it wasn't coming from there and have had no problems with leaking urine. I wasn't having a lot of contractions but I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this? They also mentioned membranes thinning but it was very clear and watery.

Last Appointment

I cannot believe I had my last appointment today! LO is still breech so next thursday is my csection. My doctor is doing an ultrasound first and if she does flip, I can cancel the csection. If she does not flip, I will have my baby in 9 days! As much as I do not want a csection, I am so excited to meet my baby girl!

Anyone else dealing with this? My OB told me to start taking an iron supplement (and eat red meat, beans, spinach, raisins) but I can't find the brands she suggested that are best for avoiding constipation.

If anyone else is taking iron supplements, what kind? Would love to avoid constipation these last few weeks is possible. :)

Yes, this is true. Last year I saw on "The Discovery Channel" a special episode that talked about women going into labor during full moon. Because I had just turned 9 months and was tired of being pregnant in the long Texas (hot) summer. I decided to test out the theory. I contacted the local tv station and asked when was the next full moon. The weather man advised me it would be tonight Sept. 09, I went outside and stood full view of the moon for nearly an hour. I even got out thel lawn chairs and laid out. Sure enough the next morning, I was at the hospital having my baby. The RN Nurse says they have more pregnant women come in during a full moon. I told her about what I saw on the "Discovery Channel" she couldn't say for sure but I'm sticking with the Moon. Every once in a while I'll walk outside and tell the moon thanks. Full Moon Rocks!

Dad Might Be Right

So two weeks ago I had a u/s that estimated LO at 5 lbs 7 oz (yes, these are notoriously wrong) and had her head firmly lodged in my pelvis. Last week when I had lunch with my dad I told him this and he told me that he expected me to have her in the next week or two.

I laughed this off and continued on my way. Today at my appt, my Dr informed me that I'm dilated to 3 cm and that my cervix feels the way she would hope it would if I was at the hospital to deliver. She tried to hint around to figure out if my water had broken without me noticing. She even told me that she'll be surprised if I make it another week.

Looks like dad might be right!

At the PET unit

Starting yesterday evening I had horrific headaches and was throwing up. I took Tylenol PM, it did nothing, a few hours later I took Tylenol with codeine that my OB had given me for sciatic nerve pain, it helped me fall asleep, but 3 hours later I was up vomiting again. I had to call mom in the morning to come take care of Li because I couldn't function. I had my weekly OB appt scheduled for noon and told DH he had to take me because there was no way I could drive.

We got the the OB's office, my urine tested at 3 for protein and I was crying because I was in so much pain, so she sends me to the hospital because she wants to rule out pree. So I've been laying here in the PET unit of L and D for almost 3 hours.

The blood test results came back, and all looks good and we get to go home. DH is currently bitching at me that I don't drink enough water....

Update on Phillip!

Hi ladies! I just wanted to let you all know how Phillip is doing. As of this morning, he is back up to 3lbs 6.9 oz and is just .9 oz short of his birth weight! He continues to be super alert and active when he's awake and we just love to see him kicking and stretching. He's definitely all leg!

After several different attempts at feeding (colostrum at the breast, supplemental feeding system attached to my breast, SFS attached to my finger, etc), we have finally gotten a system down that's really working. I pump for roughly 20 minutes prior to feeding time and we give Phillip a bottle of breast milk every three hours. He eats roughly 30ccs per feeding and we supplement with formula if I don't pump enough (my milk isn't fully in). The hospital's LC has been kinda giving me and my nurses a rough time about it, but she's never observed him trying to eat and therefore doesn't know how hard he was working to essentially burn more calories than he's receiving. Whatever.

I'm officially released, but am rooming in until he can go home. Looking forward to hearing many more birth stories here soon :)

I'm totally torn on private CBB. I feel like it has great potential and I would feel terrible if my family needed it and I didn't bank it. But at the same time I've read how there's only a small chance it would be useful. My parents think it's a good investment. But my husband thinks it won't work the way it is sold and is all marketing. I'm wondering what others are doing. TIA
