She started off a rocked napper for a while but somehow, suddenly became an excellent 2 time a day, 2-3 hour napper. Recently I've pushed her to the limit and made her get through excruciating experiences (for me) like the dreaded zoo. I can't stand the zoo,... Anyway.. She happily sat through the experience & smiled the entire time, napped 20 minutes in the car then stayed up til her early bedtime of 6:30 that night.

Shes been screwing around a lot in her crib for an hour & a half, happily playing and babbling but has been skipping her afternoon nap. She's exhausted by 6:30 on those days, but happy as ever and eats & drinks well.

My question is, if you are transitioning to one nap, if there's anyone out there(!!!) then how do you do it?

My kid wakes around 6:30 or 7 am & I keep napping her at a normal morning time of 10ish to find that she won't nap in the afternoon but is quite tired by bedtime and resembles a puppy on Benadryl. How do you keep them up to kind of centralize a mid day nap?

Strawberry allergy?!

I gave my DD strawberry yogurt for lunch today. It was the third time she ate it this past week. This evening I noticed a rash all over her feet and legs and her face was flushed. I was telling my sister in law about a woman I met who had been breastfeeding for 17 months,

Her- "What?! Thats so creepy."

Me- "What? Creepy?"

Her- "I think breastfeeding for a year or longer is super creepy."

Me- "How do you even say that to me? Ive been feeding her for 9 months with no end in sight!"

Her- "Ya but your weaning her arent you?"

Me- "No." In my mind I said, "No, ***.Thanks for the support." This is coming from the girl who didn't even spend mothers day with her 4 year old, works full-time and works out after work so she basically spends NO time with him. Some moms are just so different.

I should add that I am a working mom too!!! I work two days a week gone for over 13 hours on those days (nurse) but I work because we need the money. I do NOT judge working moms for working. I DO judge my SIL for never spending time with my nephew while she criticizes me for the bond I have with my baby. She hardly sees him and I just cant understand it!! Some women were not meant to be mothers and she is one of them.

Zithromax (antibiotic)

My LO has a really bad cold, started as a stuffy nose last Monday, took him to the ped and she said his ears and throat looked alright. He's gotten worse this weekend, he's been waking up crying in the middle of the night which is not like him at all and also has a bad cough now. So anyway its Sunday so I had to just take him to the local Urgent Care, doc there said his ears are still okay for now but he gave us a prescription for Zithromax. I'm always wary of meds. Has anyone else had this antibiotic prescribed for their LO and how old were they? Any reactions? TIA

how did you eliminate bottles

my ds has 4 bottles a day but he eats so much at dinner that he sometimes throws up if he has a bottle before bed. He also has one around 4 when he wakes up. My question is when did you eliminate bottles and which ones first. I was thinking I would keep the morning one and put the next two in sippys at lunch and dinner and then eliminate the before bed one first. that is what I did with DD I think. My doctor says no milk till one so I am still doing formula for a few more weeks.

Birthday presents for boys

What are you getting your DS for his first birthday?? I currently have a BOB jogger (it's a BEAST of a stroller and not compact at all) and the Chicco travel system stroller.

I really would like a city mini because it seems so easy to fold up with one hand and it seems lightweight, which would be nice for travel. Also, it seems like it will have good maneuverability on city streets.

My question: what's with the different models? I see them on craigslist for $150 and up, but I've seen them at Target for $200 (http://www.target.com/p/baby-jogger-city-micro-stroller/-/A-14180854 ) and I see that BRU has one that's $350 (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12546357&searchURL=true )... what's the difference, in your experience?

Also, are there better options out there for what I want? I want to be able to fit the diaper bag under it, and I'd love a cupholder. The first couple of days they put it on his sheet he was fine at home, but late last week he started doing all of this at home. We did get him checked out last week to make sure it wasn't an ear infection or something and nada, he's not teething (has 8 and I don't see anything coming), eating and drinking normal, and sleeping normal. He doesn't walk yet, but cruises on everything and loves his walker. So I am telling myself he's just going through a develpomental milestone/phase and maybe frustrated about wanting to walk.

I know he's still got months to go before he's actually walking, but it's got me curious about how the process works.

Did your LOs learn to stand up by themselves before walking? Or did they pull themselves up on furniture and start walking from there? TIA

9 months and not crawling

My little guy turns 9 months tomorrow, and I feel as if he is behind compared to other babies his age. He's mastered going from sitting position to his tummy (pretty much flops down), scoots himself in circles and rolls. Since he's been 6 months he pushes off with toes when he tries to reach for toys. At his 6 mth appointment my doc thought since he was starting to do that, crawling would soon be following...but still not crawling. He also loves to stand next to furniture and bounce his legs. Should I be worried, or am I just being paranoid??

Random questions...grapes, oils and bloody noses

1. What are you doing with grapes? Still peeling? I am currently cutting into fourths and peeling. He loves them but dang that's a lot of work. I can't find info on if I need to still peel...he's almost one and eats pretty large chunks of soft food but half a grape still kinda scares me so maybe keep cutting into fourths?

2. Does anyone use essential oils on their baby? My MIL is really into homeopathic methods and she used some oils on DS last night that seemed to work for his runny nose and fever. Just curious what your experience is if so?

Comment: Has your LO had a bloody nose yet? My son got one this morning after falling down on our hardwoods nose-first. No question really but it scared the crap out of me seeing him bleed for the first time!:(

I've started puffs with my twin boys, which they've enjoyed, but now I know we need to move onto other solid items as well. The thing is...I'm scared! I'm terrified they're going to choke on their food. What is the appropriate size for finger foods? I've read nothing smaller/larger than a blueberry....is that correct? So if I did a banana, for instance, would I cut into bites that small? Sorry for the should-be-common-sense questions but my pediatrician didn't give me a lot of guidance. My boys are 9 months and don't yet have teeth. My son has had a pretty constant cough/rattle in his chest all winter long. He is in daycare daily. I have had him on antibiotics off and on and it will clear up and come right back. Now he is on Augmentin and it has taken away the cough at night but he still wakes with a terrible mucusy cough in the morning.

I am wondering if this is normal? Could it be reflux? He does gag a lot when eating. But would morning mucusy cough be a part of that?

My ped basically says that it is bronchitis and I am pushing for a more in depth look. He doesnt seem sick at all just always ratteling and coughing.

Food Allergies?

Anyone had a baby with an allergic reaction to a food? He also has texture issues, so we are still in the process of introducing solids with more texture than just a puree. I started him at 6 months with baby food (pretty normal age) and tried to introduce real solids around 9 months. He was choking and coughing more than what seemed normal, so I ended up taking it pretty slow instead of forcing it. I'm only just now to the point where I can put pieces of food in his mouth that isn't spoon fed. (Banana, avocado, etc) Before we were just doing finely chopped veg or fruit mixed in baby food. So there has been some improvement, it's just a LONG process. (although I am proud of what he is able to do!)

I'm wondering if his aversion to texture/solids is related to not using pinch grasp or hand to mouth? I don't know if this is common, and I also don't know if there is anything specific I should be trying in order to encourage it! I try to always put something ON his tray instead of just feeding him, but he just uses both his pointer fingers to push it around. There is ZERO interest in putting it in his mouth.

I figure if I just keep trying, with the food on the tray and different/new pieces of food he will eventually grow out of this stage.

Anyone have the same problem?

Daycare Vent

Sorry--Just have to vent for a minute...

It seems like my son has been sick with something since he started daycare. I kind of knew this would happen, but it is exhausting. Tuesday morning my daycare called frantically because they noticed blisters on 2 of his fingers and 2 on his upper lip. So they said I needed to come get him right away and take him to the doctor. So I take him in and he has a very mild of hand foot and mouth..doctor said if he doesn't get anymore spots that day than he probably wasn't going to and she thought if that were the case he wasn't that contagious anyway and could go back to daycare. I contemplated asking her for a note saying that...but knew it wouldn't fly. Our daycare is very strict on all of that..which I get, dont get me wrong...but they said that all spots have to be completely gone, not just scabbed over. Ok fine..we will deal with that even though I'm fairly new in my position and do not have any PTO built up yet. Well I completely forgot that today was Friday--payday--my days have been all mixed up since he hasn't been to daycare most of the week. So I texted our provider (it is an in home daycare run by 2 women) and explained that I forgot and apologized and asked if it would be ok to drop off a check right after work. She sent one back saying that they needed it by noon so she could go to the bank. Um WTH? First, I'm not taking unpaid time off to come drop off a check in the middle of the day and Second..I pay you to be with my child at all times, from the time I drop him off until I pick him up...not so you can run to the bank during nap time..I dont care if there are 2 of them there...I'm so livid..I havent even responded yet. I get that it is my fault I forgot...but it's not like I am asking to not pay her for a week for something...I honestly dont know what to say to them..I'm more mad about the fact that she leaves during the day to run to the bank than anything...I can deal with the inconvenience of wanting a check by noon...

baby solids

I think I've posted this a couple times.... but its been a few months, so I wanna see if there have been any improvements, or if anyone else is dealing with this.

LO is 11 months old, and still not interested in solids.
