I'm so stressed out it affecting my health. I'm in school full time and I stay home with DS during the day, in class at night. I'm falling behind because during the day DS won't let me do anything. I mean he is constantly whining, he won't play alone for 5 minutes! He cries constantly, I feel awful, the only times I get some time to study is when i give him a snack or sit in front of the tv, sigh, yes I'm that awful! I can't afford to pay a sitter/DC, I have no one to watch him a couple hours.

I don't pay attention to him, I can't do school work. He's nap is all over the place, he naps for half hour after it took me 45 minutes to make him nap, I was so desperate I would bring him in bed and lay down so he could nap longer, now he won't nap unless i'm there with him.

He is in in room crying, and all I want to do right now is run away. I mean it.

Why couldn't I get the kid that naps two hours a day, the one that is content playing by himself for at least 5 minutes, 5 minutes!

ETA: AND I cna't talk to anyone about this bc all my SAHMs are so "happy" and "perfect". DH think I'm being "lazy" bc I don't play with him. I have NO ONE to talk to about this.

Crib to bed transition

Anyone else working on this now? At our 2 year apt, our pedi said we should give her whatever milk we drink, but we don't drink milk. I quit drinking milk when we started IF treatments.

I'm leaning towards keeping her on whole milk as my acupuncturist recommends. I know there was a recent study that showed that kids who drink skim milk are more likely to become obese, but I don't know the details.

I drank 2 percent as a child, so I guess that might be okay too. He understands everything we say... and communicates back with us (baby sign language, shaking his head, gesturing, noises like "choo choo" for train and animal sounds when he's referring to those things... and some words)... At his 2 year checkup, the doctor said communication wasn't an issue... she saw that he understood everything I said and was able to communicate back to me, but just not in words.

It's just so frustrating because when we try to get him to work on saying a word, he just looks at us and says "Yah-yah"... We've been trying for about 5 months now and I definitely wasn't expecting the test to come out positive. I had my usual day-before-period-starts brownish spotting Friday then nothing all day Saturday so I told my husband I'd probably take a test Sunday morning. He was like "okay, but it'll probably be negative" and I replied with "I know" but-shocker-it was positive!

I'm so not ready to go to a new BMB. I just stopped in there (Nov. 2013) and it's a mess of "SQUEEEEEEE!!!!" "How are you going to announce?!?!?!" and "OMG, I can't have bacon/caffeine/lunchmeat/etc. I'm going to diiiiiie" All I want is to get out of the ugly, greasy, sick feeling first tri, and into the glorious second tri (and I want to know the sex so bad so I can go through DD's clothes and see what I can use or get rid of...complete opposite season...ugh).

But, I'm definitely excited!

Anyone TTC#2+?

I know we have lots of pregnant moms so I was just wondering who was actively TTC?

2nd Birthdays

Any plans?

The rules of the playground...might be long, need to vent!

We were at an indoor play cafe a couple times last week and it seemed that every time DS got a toy, some other kid (even younger ones) would snatch the toy from him, he would just stand there and look up at me. The one time I said to the kid that DS was already playing with it and to please give it back, the mother sighed loudly and snatched it back from her DS's hands and put it down on the floor in front of us and took her her kid away from us.

Then, at one point a bunch of kids were all playing at the train tracks each with their own truck/train but this one kid kept pushing DS to the side and slamming his train into DS's. DS would just stand back and when he looked up at me I said, "I know, he is not a nice kid" some dad looked at me irritated like saying "really?".This kid looked about the same age, it was hard to believe someone can act so rough because DS is so sweet mannered.

And then there's the parents' interaction. I don't know if every time someone says to me that DS is cute I'm supposed to say the same thing back. I know this won't sound nice but, I'm not a kid person, I don't care for other people's kid, I mean, I don't croon over them, and some kids are just not that cute, sorry! Some parents force them to say "hi to the nice lady", "tell her how old you are", I also feel forced to interact with a little person when I have no desired to do so. It's that so mean of me?

Oh, and don't get me started on the older boys running all over knocking small babies down!

When is it ok to correct other kids, and if not correct them, defend yours? How do you teach your child manners when some don't have any, what's the limit, are all the toys a free for all because it's a public space? I wanna hear your thoughts, please!

Long distance car trip with a toddler

Has anyone driven a long distance recently? We have to travel back to DH's home state in August and if we fly it's $928 round trip for all three (not including we would have to rent a car for the week!). Or the other option is to drive 12 hours! Someone told me we should start our drive when DS goes to bed so hopefully he would sleep most of the time...any thoughts?
Mean Toddler?? Is anyone else going through this? Today she had two. One because when DH got her out of bed he brought her to ours (WTH DD1???) and one because she wanted to go outside and swing but I had to make a bottle and feed DD2.

I'm going to ask my pedi tomorrow, but I want to know I'm not alone and hear tips if you have any.

Early Birthday?

I can't believe our LOs are about to turn 2!

I want your opinion on something. DS's birthday is on 5/20 so I was going to have his party on Sunday 19th. His godparents are moving out of state due to his work and they are leaving on the 15th. I really want them there (one, he is my cousin and two, they adore DS) but his moving date is set by his company so it is out of his hands.

I say we celebrate DS's birthday on Saturday the 11th. Since Sunday is Mother's Day I thought Saturday would be better. DH says it's ridiculous to celebrate a birthday so early and that it is not our fault my cousin and his wife are moving, and that it's even more inconvenient that it is the day before Mother's Day.

To me it is more important to have there the people that really care about DS and not go by the calendar because DS doesn't even get it is his birthday. Plus on his actual birthday the three of us can do something special.

What do you think?

New Car Shopping - anyone have a Hyundai Elantra or Sonata?

Hey y'all, I am so undecided on the new 2013's Elantra & Sonata, does anyone here have one or the other they can recommend? Currently I have a Dodge Caliber which is basically the same size (we compared measurements) as the Elantra except its a hatchback. I think it's a great size for our daily lifestyle since our other car is a Mazda CX-9 SUV, but I also like the Sonata because I've heard it is a smoother ride and it is more of a sedan than a compact.

The Sonata GLS {cloth seats} price at the dealership right now is $19,120 and the Elantra GLS {cloth seats} is $17,195 or the Limited is $19,605 {which DH likes because it has the leather}. I'm not too particular on any of the upgrades, sure having leather or a sunroof sound cool but we have those already in our SUV so I am fine with sacrificing them, plus I've always had cloth seats. We only have one child, DS is almost 2 & we don't plan to add on to our family until later this year (going to ttc our 2nd & final babe this fall) but this will be a car we keep for a minimum of 6 years.

As you can see, I debate with myself with what I want, I almost wish someone would just tell me what to get lol! So that's where y'all come in... which should I get?

Time outs?

So DH emailed me today (we're both at work) and said that he wants to get a time out chair for DD. I'm not a fan. While I do think that time outs have their purpose, I don't think that she'd understand a "Time out chair" and would likely end up using it frequently so it would no longer be a punishment. Also, I know that DH has a small amount of patience in general so I don't want him to have a go to place to put her when she's being just a little bit of a naughty toddler and he doesn't have the patience to deal with it in a more constructive way. I wish that he wasmore patient but it's just not in his nature and doesn't seem to be changing any time soon.

I've suggested that we do a few things. Like last night, DD threw a pretty good tantrum so I held her, made her look at me, and explained what we needed to do in order to be able to do what she wanted (read books, but we had to get ready for bed first). I just don't know that she's at an age where she would understand a time out and I hate the parents that just say that a child is being bad and punish them. They need to understand what the bad behavior is and learn what they need to do to correct it.

I guess this is mostly a rant, but what are you all doing? Time outs? Or ignoring tantrums? Explaining bad/good behavior? Thoughts? DD is really an easy going, good natured little girl 90% of the time so I guess that I'm just not all that concerned with dealing with a bad tantrum once every few days...But I need to figure out a method that works for both of us at the same time so there's consistency.
