I don't post much, but I'm hoping someone can offer some suggestions, or some reassurance or something because I am at a loss.

L was great at naps and going to bed until about 3 days ago. We would tell him it was bed time and he would walk to his room, get his paci and let me put him down. Now he is screaming if I try to put him in the crib, pulling up his legs, clinging to me. The first night, after a horrible hour of crying and throwing his pacifier, banging his head on the crib, etc., I let him snuggle on the sofa, and he was fine and fell asleep after about 45 minutes. The next night, when he got fussy about going into the crib, I tried to cut to the chase, and let him just snuggle, but after 90 minutes he was awake and wanting to play and really fighting sleep. So, I put him in the crib anyway, and for most of the next hour he cried, though I sat in the room with him. He finally relaxed and fell asleep. Now, today, he is doing the same thing at nap time. Cried for over an hour. Mad, angry crying, and wouldn't stop. I told the nanny to finally give up and just let him out and he is perfectly fine and happy.

He sleeps fine once he is asleep, and I really don't think he's got anything else going on. We tried to give him some tylenol to see if it would help in case he was teething or something. But this isn't painful/sad crying. This is angry stuff.

I thought that maybe it was a one off thing, but now that it seems to happen every nap and bed time, I'm afraid this is just a power struggle. It is so hard to deal with and I am not sure what to do. Do I just stick to my guns and let him cry? Ignore him in there? Let him stay up all night? Get rid of the nap? It really seems like he won't ever give up and it really breaks my heart listening to him. We've tried music, leaving the light on, etc. but the only thing that stops it is letting him out of the crib, and I don't want to go down that path.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Diaper bags

I know this has been posted before. Probably lots of times.

I bought a bag from 31 gifts to use as a diaper bag, didn't like it so I made one. Don't like this one either so I'm curious if anyone loves their diaper bag or if it's one of those things like a purse, where you want a new one every season! I wouldn't mind spending a little more for a quality bag if I know I'm going to love it forever. Mind you, spending a little more still means well under $100 :)

Anyone starting potty training yet?

I bought DS a potty a few weeks back. I put him on it before baths just to get him comfortable with it. Sometimes he pees, sometimes he doesn't. I started putting him on it yesterday when I noticed him starting to go to the bathroom. So far he has pooped 3 times and peed twice on it. I wonder if this is just a small streak of good luck or if I should start really trying the potty training thing with him. I know pee training will take awhile but I totally wouldn't mind him being poop trained. Advice or thoughts?

What's everyone doing for the long weekend?

We are heading up to our cabin (3 hours away) for the long weekend. Weather isn't supposed to be super great (60's) but I'm sure we'll have fun anyway. Can bundle up on the boat, right? One of DH's friends is coming up with us so I'm sure the boys will be fishing most of the weekend. So nothing too exciting here, but always nice to get away!

DS is still only saying about 4 or 5 words so just want to make sure that he's on track speech wise, don't know if anyone else has gone through this. I'm paranoid that he's behind but the lady I talked to made it sound like he's doing fine but they would take a look at him just to make sure.

DH and I were talking over the weekend about TTC. We had set a date of August to stop TTA but now that we're moving, I told him we should probably wait and save money. He was saying that now that we have everything baby related, it won't cost very much at all. Obviously, I have no idea. It makes sense, but I was hoping you who have been there can tell me a first hand experience.

So DS is a full-on boy, running, climbing, dirty and farting! :-) We're still using the baby wash that's shampoo/body wash all in one and very gentle (therefore barely scented) and I just feel like he still smells like a bit like he's been rolling in the mud after a bath. Do y'all still use baby wash products or what do you use to wash LO?

DS is going to be a big brother! I took a test last Wednesday, even though I was not at all expecting a BFP. DH and I have been NT/NP since January when I had my first PP period. I'm really excited! My due date is January 17th, 2014.

Fighting afternoon nap

I've always put DS down for his only nap after lunch around 12:30/1:00. We eat lunch then go in his room, change his diaper and read books. This past week he is fighting the nap and will play and throw his blankets and pacifiers out of his crib then after a half hour/hour he cries since he wants his pacifier/blanket. Has anyone else gone through this? I don't know what to do besides let him play in there till he cries then I give him the stuff back and lay him down and he'll cry but eventually go to sleep. At bedtime he'll roll around and eventually go to sleep and doesn't do this. Thanks in advance!

Flying with LO

Hello ladies,

I was hoping for some tips and advice for traveling with DD this summer. I know many of you lovely ladies have already flown with your LO’s on both short and long flights. We have quite a long one this summer and DD will be 18 months and to be honest, I’m super anxious when I even start thinking about it. Like every other mom flying with LO’s you want to minimize the melt-downs and lack of activities to keep them busy, both for your sanity and everyone else’s on the plane. I know that everything’s not going to be smooth sailing and I’m fine with that, but I just want to be prepared to deal with what comes.

A little background on DD: she’s very adventurous, talkative, curious and is currently going through a heavy tantrum phase. I’m hoping that calms a little over the next month or so, but I’m not holding my breath. The reason I describe her like this is that my best friend has a little girl the same age, (they spend a lot of time together too) who is timid, rather quiet, and laid back. They are both sweet-natured, smart and so fun but my daughter just has that extra fire in her, if you know what I mean

We are traveling from Fresno, CA to Accra, Ghana in July and we will be gone until the first week in August. My husband is from there and is leaving this coming weekend to go first, then my mom, DD, and I will join him in August. I’ll have some help from my mom but we fly from Fresno, CA to Dallas, to Houston, to Istanbul, Turkey (overnight in Istanbul, Turkey with a hotel thank goodness), hidden stop (meaning you don’t get off the plane) in Ivory Coast, and then to Ghana. We’ve been before so I know what to expect on the flights but never with a baby. I know we’ll be fine when we are actually there but the flights are so daunting to think about and calculate the amount of hours we’ll be in an enclosed space. The longest flight is from Houston to Istanbul (13 hours). I have checked into bassinet service but we are still waiting on confirmation for that.

I’ve been doing some internet searches and reading different articles about flying with children, but who better to ask than all of you with the experience? Any advice, tips, warnings, links, etc would be greatly appreciated however small.

Toddler bed

Hey ladies,
What are your future plans for transitioning LO to the next bed? We just found out 2 will be here in January and I don't know if we should buy another convertible crib, use the same for the baby and get DD a toddler bed, twin bed on the ground with side rails? Just ideas. How long are they in a toddler bed before needing a twin? DD hasn't tried to climb out yet so I haven't put much thought into it.

Or are some of the mom's on the 12-24 board snotty and rude. I was looking at a post this morning and some moms will just jump on other moms and criticize them for no real reason. It's so annoying to read, I want to say something but don't want to start a fight either. Can't stand judgmental moms, ugh.

I am officially done pumping! My goal was April 1 and I kept pushing it back. I felt guilty but I finally got so sick of sitting there barely getting anything that I decided I'd be done by the time DH got home. He was happy and still wants to take it for shooting practice but I'm not going to let him. I'm excited to pack it away and not look at that thing for a very long time!

WWYD house stuff

We have to be out of our house July 15 - wicked fast. I've been thinking so much about what to do. So a couple of thoughts and questions for you.

We are planning to build in a few years. Would you buy or rent? DH wants to buy a small/cheap house and sell when we build. My thoughts are that we're going to have to sell that pos, what if it takes forever like our first house? I'm leaning towards renting, but a house payment and rent payment would be nearly the same and we would have equity in this house to put towards our house that we're going to build. There are so few houses available in this area, it feels like we just don't have very many options.

Next, after talking to my mom and sister about all this house stuff, they are so resistant. They think it was completely stupid. They see nothing wrong with this house and I tend to feel attacked quickly, and I get so defensive. I think what we did is in the best interest of our financial future. We want to pay off as much as we can before we jump into building a home. Not that our current house payment was too much to afford, but we can downgrade and be that much better off. Our house is huge. I feel like all I do every day is clean. I've turned into a clean freak. I like to get their opinions, but every time I mention moving to a neighboring town, they tell me how much drugs are there, what a bad school system they have, and so on. No town is perfect! Do I just stop bringing it up and tell them when we've made a decision? It's so hard to not talk to them about it. They are my only friends!

I am really in love with Lucky Charms right now. I usually like those wheat pillows with sugar on top, but nothing makes me as happy as LC do. And they are best for dinner or dessert after dinner. :-)

Recommend your monitor - non video

We had a monitor with DD1, and it died before we had DD2. My parents got us another monitor for DD2 and it sucks! We get a ton of feedback no matter how we have it synced up with the base unit.

Now, my MIL is looking for a monitor (reason too long to explain) and wanted to know what I recommend. Obviously the 2 I have I would not recommend, so I am wondering what you ladies use. The first one we had was a Graco and the one we have currently is the Sony Babycall. Looking for something else, or any suggestions you have on improving the Sony Babycall!!
