I just read a post about what people (who use disposables) use for a diaper pail to control the stink. People talked about how often they take out the trash to control the smell and how the garage can get stinky before garbage day! Yuck! Not to mention how I cringe to read how many people use Diaper Genies. Isn't that just wrapping disposable diapers in layers of more plastic? What will future generations think of our stupid environmentally unfriendly society?

Hi Everyone! DH and I are still quite new to CDing but we plan on making it our sole diapering choice once our first child is born in a few weeks. I've read and lurked on the boards for awhile (thanks for the wealth of information!) and believe I have a pretty decent grasp on brands, but then again I am still fairly new. We've started out our stash with Thirsties and Charlie Bananas (we stumbled across the deal at Target just as it was being posted). I was also fortunate enough to also grab 15 brand new Thirsties DuoWraps (all snaps, no Aplix) at 3.14 a piece. I know that's a lot of wraps but I couldn't help myself at that price!!

My main question is, for those that have used Thirsties wraps, which prefolds worked best for you in terms of absorbency? I know it's best to wait until he's here and see which work best but I'd like to add to our fluff in the meantime. Thanks in advance for your time in responding. :)

Before I post this tonight on cloth diaper swap/sale I wanted to send out feelers for some Best Bottoms I'm selling.

Everything in excellent condition. 2 of the stay dry inserts have light staining from blueberries but I can try sunning them before sending.

So what wetbags do you use? Do you have any you would not recommend?

I will be CDing full time, and cloth wipes too.

Hoping for a little advice. I'm going to be hand washing our Sbish fitted diapers while we're on vacation with relatives, and am not sure what kind of soap I ought to use. I've been washing with powdered Tide. We're only using these for overnight, so I'll only be dealing with pee (unless my daughter decides to surprise us). Also not sure if I even need to hand wash, if it's just pee, or if I could throw them in with her clothes. My thanks in advance!

Newborn Fitteds

Hello! Anyone have experience using newborn fitteds? In particular the Swaddlebee Organic ones? I've been planning to use mostly prefolds during the newborn phase with some AIO's. The organic fitteds are more expensive than the organic prefolds and I'm wondering if it's worth it to have some on hand.

BG cover as swim diaper?

I ordered re-usable swim diapers for DS this summer, but they are still too large to actually catch any poop. We are going to an amusement park Fri with a water park, and I really don't want to spend $10 on a pack of swim diapers for one day. All we use are BG 4.0s for CDing...would it be weird to use just the cover as a swim diaper? Will the chlorine ruin it?

I was planning on just going with prefolds, possibly fitteds, and I have a handful of Kawaii P&N for the NB stage. However, now my only friend IRL who CDs said prefolds didn't work for her and leaked all the time and so the bought a whole NBC stash of TB tini fits, which she claims are amazing.

Now she's offering to sell me them for $14 each (EUC). We are trying to keep costs low, but I would pay more if I believed it would be worth it.

So, help please. What did you think of these? Are they worth $14? How long did they fit you're LO? I know different things work for different people, but I would appreciate your reviews and advice!

Okay so I am up to 4 on cloth diapering 101. I know I dont want to use prefolds I want to use one of the modern cloth diapers but when she talks about pocket ones and all in ones and all in twos I'm having a hard time of differentiating what the brands I'm seeing on babies r us are perhaps I'm tired and I'm just not looking hard enough but can you offer advice on which brand to choose so far I see Charlie Banana, BumGenius, Bumkin, and G diapers

So, I've decided my white diapers are toast. The orange stain on the back of the micro suede won't come out, the other diaper is pilly and gross (it has a hole in it too). I take good care of my dipes, but these two diapers have just been a headache.

Anyways, we are having build up issues. My dipes were repelling. We use Tide cuz RnG wasn't cleaning. However, now we are having detergent build up. So I've been blue dawn stripping. I'm tired of stripping and repelling every 2 months. What other detergents could I use instead of Tide? We have semi hard water.

Stains after one use?

Hey ladies! Not a regular on this board, but I would love your advice.

I washed my diapers (AppleCheeks) for the first time today, on the hot/cold setting, with Tide Free for cold water detergent. They came out with yellow stains all over them. There's no smell, but the colour is awful.

Was I an idiot to use the Tide Free for cold water? Could it be that? Or, are stains normal to some extent?

Worth Worrying About?

So I bought a giraffe print OS Simplex on eBay NWT for $18 which I thought was a pretty decent deal. It arrived today, and while it does have the tags on it and everything, the white in between the giraffes has light yellow marks all over it. It's almost like when they printed the PUL it got stacked on top of itself and the yellow from a different piece ran onto this. It's like really light silhouettes of the giraffes between the real giraffes It's not super dark or anything, but it's definitely noticeable to me because I know how it should look and it makes the diaper look dingy already. The diaper itself will still function fine and technically is "new with tags", so is it worth contacting the seller to see if they will do anything? I know it's stupid to be annoyed about, but I didn't have this print and it bugs me that I bought it new and it's not perfect, even if I did get it for a deal.

Just bought 15 CBs at Target for $113. 3 are DS for baby due in Oct and the other 12 are OS. I just read some horror stories on Amazon reviews and I'm not sure if I should return them or not. We are seasoned CDers and have tried everything from BG AIOs to flats to fitteds and wool. What has been you experience with CBs? BTW I have the new style sliding adjustment ones.

Drying cloth diapers

My twins aren't here yet but I'm trying to get ready! I have mainly aio's and some pockets and was wondering about drying them. I know a lot of people like to line dry their diapers but I just don't really have the room for that. Does using the dryer make them not last as long?

DS is size 4 and I have been thinking about cloth diapering. We are looking to go green and right now use Honest company diapers because he is so sensitive. I think I'd like to go the cloth diaper route but I have no idea how to start. Please treat me like I'm five you cannot be basic enough.

Chemical burn?

Hi all,

I was wondering if any of you can help... I have been CD my 2 year old since about 6 weeks old. Have had minor issues with stink and leaking, but recently (last few months) he has been getting what I've found out to be chemical burns. I have only used Rockin' Green, and when this has happened, I assumed it was because I was trying to wash too many diapers together or not enough detergent (I had been approximating). To 'strip' I would soak for an hour or two in hot water with 3 Tbsp (measured) of Rockin green, with 7-8 full cycles of hot/cold with no detergent. Seemed like it worked! But then has been happening more. Lately we have been so busy on the weekends and traveling that we have only been CDing during the week, and I can't figure out what we are doing wrong. I've never had this issue in the past 2 years. Do you think it is just ammonia/detergent/hardwater that is reoccurring? I've read a few posts about doing a bleach strip or using RLR. How often would you recommend this? Also, could it be that now that he is older his urine has more ammonia and that is a part of it? I wash typically twice a week now with about 12-15 diapers per load. I always use the largest water setting. Not sure if you need any other information. Please let me know your suggestions, or ideas!
