Poll: Your toddler's (current) obsessions

I'm just curious as to what other people's toddlers are obsessed with these days.  I know there have to be some crazy things out there (though I think mine are fairly typical), so please do share ...

Toddler's Current Age: 17 months actual (14 months adjusted)

Current Obsessions: 

1)  putting things behind her, turning around to get them, then starting over  - sometimes in conjunction with putting things in a box, climbing in to get them, putting them behind her, turning around ... you get the picture ...

2)  figuring out how buckles work
DD was born at 28 weeks (due to severe pre-e) on 11/13/07. She weighed in at just 1 lb 11 oz due to IUGR.

GREAT things can come in VERY SMALL packages!

He is obsessed with the picture frames we have in our living room.  Them and the magnets on the fridge.  He would rather play with these things than any of the 4 zillion toys he has.  Go figure.

ETA:  he's 13.5 months.

Oh, and lint rollers.  We have 3 cats and brown microsuede living room furniture.  So every morning, I need to break out the lint rollers to clean them off.  I have to keep an extra one in the drawer just for Ben because if I have one and he doesn't, he totally freaks out.

Anything with buttons....especially the tv buttons or controller....and cell phone (he holds it up to his ear and says hello)

 Also, he loves playing with the tupperware in the tupperware cabinet.  It's the one cabinet I don't lock up.

Climbing up on things.  

Hairbrushes!  I have like 4 hairbrushes and every day she gets them out and walks around with them and tries to brush her hair, my hair, and hitting the cats with them

the cats - chasing, sitting on, patting, hitting

sitting in her chair (pbk everywhere chair) and hugging her bitty baby and her stuffed animals.  she loves her stuffed animals.

Zachary is obsessed with opening doors.  He just figured out how to do it and it's allllllll he wants to do all day - run through the house and open nd close all of the doors.  I need to invest in some more child-proofing gear!

LOL Lori, your post about Matthew is cracking me up!

Hairbrushes and lint rollers and all things with buttons ... it is crazy what kids attach themselves to! 

My sister's son was obsessed with hair dryers first (as a young toddler), then vaccuums, then fans, then air conditioners, then waste disposal dumpsters, and now (at the age of 8) emergency alert sirens.

DD is 13 months. Her most recent fixation is opening and closing her plastic Easter eggs, though she can't quite close them right so she keeps handing them to me for that part. She also spent a lot of time the other day picking something up, putting it in a bowl, and trying to stand with it. It didn't work out too well...she kept tipping the bowl and the object would fall out so she had to start over. And she has an ongoing fascination with belly buttons.

DD's age: 13 months

Obsession: Putting something on top of something else and trying to carry it. For example, trying to balance a toy on top of a book. Also, shoelaces & buttons.

Current obesssions: Yelling "Caaaaaaah" and pointing to every car he sees. Also, balls and balloons (watching the trailer for "Up" over and over again).

I'm usually a lurker on this board, but i had to comment on this.  My 15 month old DS is obsessed with clocks.  He knows where all the big ones are in town (on town hall, banks, etc.) and excitedly anticipates them a block before we get to them by saying, "tick-tock."  He points out clocks everywhere and does his "tick-tock" dance where he points at the clock and rocks back and forth on his feet and says "tick-tock."  He likes watches, too.

Sigh. I can't do that. My dining room floor is carpeted. The duct tape comes right up. And guess who climbed out of his PNP yesterday? Yeah, that's no help anymore.

Natalie is 16 months old. Right now her obsessions include my iced Starbucks drinks (and boy will she drink them!), so now I have to get the Barista to make her a chocolate milk in one of their iced cups, so she thinks she's getting coffee too... LOL. She also likes to approach me with something in her hand like she's going to hand it to me, then run away. She loves ribs, spices & all. We can hand her a rib & she will eat it down to the bone & carry the bone around for a while. She also loves to say "Boppy" (although we haven't said it since we put the Boppy pillow away a while ago). And she tends to say "Mommy" a lot with her bottle or sippy (does she remember her time on the breast???). She also likes to push the cat & say "GO!" I could go on for days...

Quinn is 13.5 months and he loves opening and closing doors/playing with door handles.  His dad taught him that one. Luckily he can't get most doors open yet.  He also likes putting things inside other things.  He will put his water sippy in the cabinet when he gets the chance. 

He also loves his "Bubbles, Bubbles" book, which was a $1 book from Target.  He brings it to me and has me read it to him over and over and over.

this is my daughter - word for word. Her easter eggs were her best gift, and as fo the bowl - she gets sooo upset when she stands up and the things fall out. Eventually she gets pissed and throws the bowl.

Almost 17 months

Balls! Everything is Ball? Ball? Throwing, kicking and carrying them around the house. All kinds, all sizes. My husband and I laugh because we're always saying something like "go play with your balls" or "go get your balls" ;)
