Anyone using albuterol inhaler?

I've switched OB's and my new doctor gave me an albuterol inhaler to use as needed. My asthma got much better with my last pregnancy so I never had to use my inhalers. Now I'm thinking I might need to with this pregnancy. Just seeing if there was anyone out there using it too - I read it is a class C drug.

I have exercise-induced asthma, so I only use mine when necessary.  I had to use it prior to a hike and during karate a few weeks back, but mine is Xopenex.  I have albuterol in my nebulizer and my OB said it was ok to use that too.  Basically, it's better to use what's necessary to breathe, rather than deprive the baby of oxygen because we can't catch our breath.

I actually just took a few puffs of mine. My OB said it was fine to take.  Better for me and baby to get the correct amount of oxygen.

I was doing great in the first tri.  Things have gotten worse in the second.  So I'm taking Singulair and using my inhaler as needed.  I needed it too much last week, so I'm hoping my doc has suggestions when I see him next week.

They did tell me that it was better for the baby to have a mom that can breathe.

Yes I have one of those inhalers, plus a serevent and a flovent inhaler. I've had asthma my whole life. I was concerned about being on them while being prego but my asthma doc said there is no evidence that they harm the fetus in any way. He said 1/3 of prego women's asthma gets worse during pregnancy. I havent' had any problems so far, and my lung function was actually better now than it was last year. I don't think there's any reason to worry.

My asthma got noticeably worse with pregnancy (I wake up short of breath and often dream someone is suffocating me - yikes).

Yes, it's a class C drug but depriving LO of oxygen is far worse than any known effect of albuterol. Puff away! :)

I use albuterol.  Even though it's class c, my doctor is much more comfortable with me taking it instead of a preventative medicine (advair or pulmicort).  My asthma has been a little better with pregnancy though, so I haven't used it much...only when I'm sick.

I've used albuterol with both pregnancies and have never had a problem.  The benefits of you breathing well outweigh the risks of the medication.
