What are your top 3 most annoying comments from people?

I just felt like sharing mine, since I see many people with similar vents.  The part that bothers me most is that, often, I'm just thinking out loud when I share how I'm feeling...but people cannot pass up the chance to make me feel worse (or so it seems). I'm assuming they mean no harm but they're really annoying anyway.

In no particular order:

1) You think that's bad (ie: lack of sleep, swelling, pain)...wait. It gets worse!

2) Get all the sleep you can now, because once baby arrives you won't sleep at all!

3) Oh that's nothing. When I was pregnant....I (fill in the blank. Way to minimize how I'm feeling!! Thanks!)

...And yours...?

Only 1 Comment that I have gotten that I HATE, and it was from a client:

Oh look who is waddling now.....

Oh that pi$$ed me off.

1.) Are you sure there is only one baby in there?

2.) How are you feeling? You look tired.

3.) Sleep while you can, it only gets worse.

Yea I get that a lot too - I just say "Yeah its cuz I have to piss like a race horse" and that usually shuts people up.

Not in any type of order:

1) "You gained how much? You need to eat more." ( Um, I didn't know that you had a medical background)

2) "Are you going natural? I would get something if I were you" ( Um, you are not me, so back off)

3) Get all of the sleep now because once the baby is born you will never sleep. ( How do you know that I will never get a good nights rest?)

Oh and my three:

1. you look a lot bigger than with the last pregnancy - Um no, thank you I am actually not.  With my last I gained 60 lbs and I am probably only up 20 at this point.

2. So now that you are having one of each are you done? - I didnt realize my reproductive practices were up for discussion with you and the rest of the office personnel.

3. When I respond to #2 with - yes I am done - someone is always like YEAH RIGHT you said that with your first - I'll believe it when I see it, you'll be pregnant again within a year.  SERIOUSLY?!  no I am actually getting fixed while they have me cut open but that again is none of your business.

"How are you feeling?" constantly annoys me.  No one cared before I was pregnant!

"Do you have a name yet?"  Mostly annoying because everyone KNOWS we're not picking a name until she's born.

I think those are the only two at this point.

The most annoying comment I get is from everyone at work every day, "You are still here?". Yes, I am still effing here...my baby has not made his appearance yet, so I come to work every day. And, they all end their sentence with "I am so sorry." So annoying! Why can't people just say "Good morning." Instead, they just make me feel like crap, like it is normal for people to deliver their babies early - not me! My DD was 1.5 weeks overdue, why would I expect to deliver DS early?

Ok, vent over...

1. Are you sure it isn't twins?  You are huge!

2. ::Insert unsolicited negative advice here- such as: you'll never sleep again, you won't have freedom anymore, just wait until she's sick/runs all over the place, etc::  "Oh but don't worry, it'll be great to have a baby!"

3. When are you due?  ::I respond the 24th::  OH wow, there's no way you'll make it that long.  (I got this question & response starting back in January!!)

4. Rest now as you'll need it.  Um, rest?!  I can barely climb into bed, let alone get comfortable when I finally get there!

5. How are you feeling?  I'm actually really sick of this question even though I know the people inquiring mean well....I look like hell and that I haven't slept in months, I waddle when I walk, I am swollen all over, and I have intense pelvic pain getting in the car, rolling over in bed, and doing anything that involves lifting a leg.  I'm 9 months pregnant, of course I don't feel 100% awesome, but I'm certainly hanging in there!

1. You're not that big, you should eat more! (I'm small in stature people, and LO is measuring perfect)

2. You definately have a girl in there, boys you carry in your stomach, girls you carry in your face and butt (yeah this was from a complete stranger!)

3. Just have a repeat c-section, it's much easier that way. (Hey you aren't the one being cut open, I'm trying for a vbac).

"So when are you gonna have that baby???"

Two that really irked me are from my mother-in-law.

The second she found out I was pregnant she likes to ask:

1) How's the baby?

Ummm, pretty sure the baby is doing well.  It has all of the nutrients it needs, warmth, sleeps when it wants....

And then the last time I saw her I got:

2) Boy, you are not that big?

Gaw!!

1.) You're still so high....I'm sure you'll be late.  (Wow...thanks...)

2.) Do you have any idea what day the baby will be born on? (No...)

And my personal favorite.....

3.) Are you going to have an episiotomy? (Really??? Why don't you call my Dr. and ask him!)

2. How are you feeling?   (its a thoughtful question, just not 50x a day)

3. You're so lucky!    (no, i'm not lucky- you're a whiner)

Just two really irk me:

"Get sleep now, cause you won't later."  (I'm only getting about 2 hrs sleep now.  At least on leave I should be able to find some time in 24 hrs to get at least 2 hrs sleep.)

"You want to go med free?"  *Rolls eyes* "Good luck"  - real inspiring and encouraging people...thanks for the support.

1. Wow you are bigger today than yesterday (from co-workers). Gee thanks for noticing that I grew in the 12 hours since I've seen you last.

2. How is HE? I can't wait for HIM to arrive. Um... we are team green. Why does EVERYONE think it's a boy? And refer to LO as such?

3. How are you feeling? I give the polite answer because you don't really want to know that I feel like crap.

1. Everything is going to change once you have the baby (really? I thought everything would remain the same)

2. You're having a girl, right, yes how did you know, I can tell cause you are fat all over (a patient of mine said that to me)

3. what is your due date (if its your first time asking its ok, but when a coworker asks you every other day it gets old)

1. You're starting to look pregnant! (Dude... I'm 31 weeks. What did I look like before? I've been showing since week 6).

2. Are you ready? ( No. I haven't even had any showers yet, and all we have is an empty crib with no crib sheet. I am not prepared at all).

3. Are you sure that's your due date? (I actually had someone ask me that, and when I said our baby is measuring 3 weeks ahead because of my diabetes, and that we'll probably deliver in April, he eyed my belly and said "Yea. Definitely April").

Thanks for letting me vent :)

Great post. I would echo what everyone else has already said, basically. I work with mostly women (I'm a teacher) so I get a LOT of comments and unsolicited advice. My main gripe is, can we just pass each other in the hallway WITHOUT you feeling you need to acknowledge my pregnancy? Just say hi to me WITHOUT you making a comment or asking a question I'm going to hear 100 times throughout the day?

So far I've had it pretty good.

Guy at work:  "Damn, you're huge!"  Thanks, asshat.  I've only gained 7 pounds, tyvm.

Waitress:  What are you having? Another girl. So are you going to keep trying for a boy? No! Considering I wasn't trying for either one. Is there something wrong with only having girls? I must have missed that memo.

 1. Upon hearing that we're breastfeeding/doing cloth diapers, the sarcastic, "Yeah, good luck with that."  Thanks! Just because it didn't work for you doesn't mean it won't work for us! And maybe it WON'T work for us, but there's no need to be a jerk about it.

2. The same tired comments as everyone else. I have had a pretty easy pregnancy, really, so when people ask how I'm feeling that's all I have to say - "A little tired, but really pretty good!" which always results in them saying something like, "This is only the beginning." Yeah. Thanks.

3. Any unsolicited advice.  Our neighbor has two kids under the age of three and owns a local baby store that sells cloth diapers and stuff.  We went in to get some diapers the other day and he asked if we were taking birthing classes, and when we said yes, we were taking them at Xxxxx Hospital right now, he said, "Well, just realize that when you're taking the hospital's classes, you're getting the HOSPITAL'S point of view."  Uh-huh.  Since I'm having my baby in the hospital, I'm perfectly fine with that. If you gave birth at home in your bathtub, that's A-OK, but don't try to push your experiences off on me.

1) "Oh, so then you'll try for a girl next time right?" (from almost everyone after announcing we are having DS#2)

2) "You're in so much trouble when this one gets here" (from DH's cranky old grandma who thinks that my son is too clingy and won't let me take care of the new baby)

3) "So how much weight is it normal to gain?" (came from BIL's gf, a mother of 3, who went on to insinuate I had gained too much and tried to get me to tell her my exact number)

Oh I thought of my favorite from when I was pg with DS#1... When I told my MIL and DH's Aunt that I wanted to go natural:

"You'll never be able to go natural, you'll cave. Just wait, you'll see you'll be begging them for something" - Let me tell you something, when I got to the point where I felt like I couldn't take it anymore when I was laboring with DS, those were the words that got me angry enough to push through the pain and I got my med-free birth. Smile

I am loving this post! Some days I feel so grumpy I want to snap peoples heads off at stupid questions!! I hate:

1. When people ask whether I am breastfeeding and for how long? (My boobs, my business!!)

2. When I tell people that I believe in doing certain things like making my own baby food with a Beaba I get negative criticism from everyone how I won't stick with it. (Just because you caved doesn't mean that I will!)

3. Are you going to have more kids? (MY response is how about I see how we do with this one before I plan on getting knocked up again, thanks for shopping!! geez)

4. And what almost everyone else has said..Sleep now you won't later. (and like everyone else I am miserable almost every night already so much rather have the baby here!)

Big Smile

I have to agree with the pp's, the 'how are you feeling?' as if I have some sort of 'illness' is really getting old. And there is this one lady who used to ask me every time I yawned, stretched, went to the bathroom, etc if I was ok. Good lord, I wanted to belt her one!! But my biggest pet peeve is people who think it is ok to greet me by rubbing, patting, or otherwise touching my belly! Seriously?!!?? Since when has this been an appropriate form of greeting someone?!? And it's not like you can feel anything anyway, it's just skin you're touching...MY skin!! GRRRrrrrr. BACK OFF!! Super Angry
