carseats - big sale tomorrow- need advice in advance

so the gracosnugride is on sale tomorrow at a  small store near my house (Moms to be and more at Bayview& Eglinton if you happen to live near Toronto)

It is a door crasher sale - no returns.  normal price close to $200, on sale for $99.

but is it a  good carseat?

Couple questions.

it is only good to 22lbs rear facing. Is that acceptable for an infant seat? I want an infant seat so that we can carry the baby around in it, use it in the stroller, and inside, etc.

what else do I need to look out for?

can you get a convertible seat that fits into a stroller? Because it seems the convertible is good for a longer time. However, if it is bulky or hard to take out of the car and hook up to the stroler, then it is not good.

The Snugride gets an A in Baby Bargains, so yes I would say it is a great seat. They also make 30 and 35 lb versions, but think about how heavy that will be once your baby gets to be that big. I guess it depends if people in your family have tall/big babies or not. If you don't, you're probably safe to get the 22 lb version and then transfer to a convertible seat once the baby outgrows it.

thanks for the information.  I cant find Baby Bargains in my book stores and it isnt worth buying because most of the information is for Americans.  But I think there are a few pages I wish I could rip out.

Graco Snugrides got good reviews in Baby Bargains.  Its what we got.  They are pretty compatible with things like strollers, grocery carts, etc according to the book as well.

The 22lb thing should be fine, it just will mean you have to bump up to a convertible seat sooner (many of those can go in rear facing as well, in case your LO still isn't old/tall enough for your local regulations for forward facing).  BB recommended the 30 or 35, but if you're just looking ot use it for when you can carry baby around then you'd probably still be ok.

Have you checked that a snugride would fit in your vehicle?

That's fine for an infant seat. You aren't going to want to be carrying a 22 pounder around like that.

To answer your earlier question: No, convertible seats don't snap into carts/strollers and the like.

Here are a few tidbits from the BB book for the Graco Snugride:

Pros: lightweight (base model), level indicator, canopy, easy to use, front belt adjuster.  works with many strollers.

Cons: Only one crotch position.

Comments (I condensed this section a lot): Good fit in most vehicles. Affordable.  Ease of use. BB recommends the 30-35, not the 22...says it typically too small for todays babies.  Lacks some side impact protection found on expensive seats and lacks a rebound bar.  Avg crash protection.

Rating: A

We used the Snugrides for the twins and loved them.  I think you can actually find several of them brand new for around $100, not just during the sale at the place near you.  They might just not have your favorite print at that price.  In fact, when I look it up on Amazon the first one that pops up is <$90.

Not sure which stroller you have/plan on getting, but make sure the seat will fit.  We got a BOB with an infant seat adapter, specifically made for Graco car seats.  We took it to a store to try out seats and the 22 and 30 did not fit, only the 35 fit into this particular Graco adapter.  Had we ordered before trying, we would have had to return and re-buy.

and that is the difference between the US and Canada.  Here at BRU, they are $179.

Sorry, not trying to hijack the post, but doesn't this just piss you off?  I mean the CDN$ is actually greater than par with the US$ right now, but we can't order a car seat from a US site because it doesn't have the right sticker, so it's not legal in Canada - so we are paying $80+ for a bloody sticker!

graco snugride is highly recommended by Baby Bargains.  I am registering for one, but I am getting the snugride30 (up to 30 lbs instead of 22lbs).

I asked my sister (mother of 3) about it and she had the 22 lb one for all three of her kids and said it was fine.

I would also recommend the stroller that is just a frame, you can just clip the car seat into.  It is very light weight and easy to use when you are using the infant car seat.

We have a Graco (I think safe seat) and it worked fine. We will use it again. 22 pounds is more than plenty for an infant seat. We carried DD around in hers longer than most people do but after she hit about 18 pounds even DH was done with it (and hes the type of guy who wont ask for help to pick up furniture because he wouldnt dare complain about something being heavy) and we switched to the convertible.

I used the Graco Snugride with DS and loved it.  DS was a big baby though, so he outgrew it quickly.  At around 7 months I had to buy the Graco Snugride 32 to accomodate him (he was really long and heavy).  If you want a lighter carseat that is going to be carried around a lot, I'd go with the Snugride 22 just knowing that your baby may outgrow it fairly quickly depending on their size.

I knjow this post is from yesterday and you may not even look at it . . . but I believe the snugride 22 has the straps adjustable from behind (as opposed to between the legs in the front).  This was the reason I decided not to get it, because it's just too much of a hassle.  Otherwise, I think the weight restrictions and all are fine, because seriously, how often are you going to carry around a 30-35lb baby in the carrier?
