When do kids stop getting into everything?

I'm talking about being able to put them down and not have to worry about him splashing in the toilet, playing with electrical cords, etc.  Being able to unload the dishwasher in peace without turning around for a second only to see him delicately balancing a plate in his tiny little hand.  It sure is hard once they are into everything!  So when does that get better?

I would say we're pretty much there and DS is almost 3.  However, now he just messes with new things and scares me just as much!  I still can't really load/unload the dishwasher without him getting involved.  I try to have him help, but all the dishes are breakable on the bottom rack.  Plus he's potty-trained, so there is a whole new fascination with the toilet!  :)

My memory is fuzzy but I think by 2.5 DD wasn't getting into too much stuff like that anymore.

I think this is super kid dependent.   My kids are more cautious than some.   I would say that by 18 months, any safety issues I had turning my back on my kids where mostly gone, though DS still gets stuff from the dishwasher if it is open.  He loves that thing, but no light sockets, running in the street, ect.

True, I don't think DS ever messed with a light socket, but running into the street on the other hand...

Um, when they move out?  Lol.  DD#1 is 15 and she swiped the plug-in to my phone one day (the USB cord was in my charging station, but the plug-in part was gone!).  I could not figure out why my phone was dying so quickly each day....turns out it hadn't charged in 3 days.  Grrr...

I usually let DD play in the bathroom while I take a shower, but last week I caught her playing with the toilet.

For the most part, she has learned what is off limits like the stove.  But at the same time, she is constantly finding new stuff to get into.  And she's a climber.

LOL, climbers are the best, aren't they?

DS will pull his chair from his craft table out to the kitchen, stand on the back of it, and try to reach the phone on the counter.  Or he'll move it around the first floor and play with the light switches.  The other day he decided he was taking his chair up the stairs to the second floor.  My heart just about stopped, but he was so proud of himself (and he was almost at the top of the stairs).

Oh, and we have a banister going up the one side of our steps - he likes to hold on to the rails and climb up.  The outside.

I was a climber, too.  Paybacks really are a b*tch!

I would say things are better now than they were, but I still have to watch all of the time and cannot relax.  DS is definitely worse that DD.  Actually, if I only had DD, it would probably be fine at this age (2 1/2 ), but DS is still getting into everything he's not supposed to and DD will follow what he's doing if it looks like he's got his hands on something interesting.

Definitely depends on the kid.  My first was/is very cautious and I've always "trusted" him.. but my baby is NUTS!  By this time with Jude (baby is 14 months), he wouldn't grab things, etc but we have a logn road ahead with Noel!
