Problems nursing AFTER frenulum clipped?!

After trying to nurse since day one, and 3 Lactation consultants and our Ped mentioning tongue ties, we broke down, went to an ENT and had LOs grade 3 frenulem (sp?) snipped....now he wont open his mouth wide enough to fully latch and fights until he's merely sucking on the nipple, which HURTS! Any ideas/recommendations/persons who can commiserate? TIA

This. I also used a nipple shield in the meantime. It took a week of the nipple shield, followed by a week without it before it was pain-free and easy to nurse.

Have you seen an LC since it was clipped? I got some good reminders and advice on how to get a good latch to begin with, and I think that really helped us especially when it came to weaning from the shield.

Exact same story here. He had it clipped at two weeks and he's now almost two months. Still sometimes reverts back to old sucking habits. LC said to use a clean finger to press down on his tongue between feedings to encourage him to relax it and thrust it forward, but who has time to do that? It has gotten better but sometimes hurts. Google vasospasms and nipple blanching and see if that sounds familiar. Could be contributing to pain.
