Does this seem right?

We recently moved so when we found out I was pg I had to get a new Obgyn. I asked about the A/S and he said they do not do them. At all. If we wanted to find out the sex of the baby then we can pay $85. This just doesn't seem right to me. I asked "well, what if my baby has a heart condition? Or something and because you didn't do the A/S it wasn't caught?" He answered "Well, if you decide to do the gender scan then we will look at all that stuff and make sure everything is ok." So, its pretty much an OOP A/S? I find this especially weird since I am considered high risk (I had pregnancy induced seizures with my last pregnancy, have lost close to 30 lbs and had to have my gallbladder out this pregnancy). Does this sound weird to anyone else or am I just worried?

I second this 100%.  I would start looking for a new OB.  Sorry you have to deal with this!

That doesn't seem right at all. Escpecially with you being high risk. I would definitely switch to a new doctor. I have friends whose babies are alive because heart and kidney problems were discovered at the a/s.

That seems completely insane and backwards!  My OB office will not do a gender scan even if you just pay for it.  I would definitely find a new OB ASAP!

OP, your 20w u/s is more than just finding out the sex as you've noted--its diagnostic!  Run away from that OB!

Umm no. If my OB said this to me I would ask for my medical records and find another OB ASAP! Especially with a high risk pregnancy that is just weird to me.

My brother had a heart condition detected during the A/S. If it weren't for that scan, he probably wouldn't be here today. I'd find a new doctor that cares about your baby's health.
