Sorry, totally lurking here.
But I had random bouts of vertigo as well (Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo was what I was told I had, basically had to do with calcium "rocks" in my ears). For me if I stood out of bed too fast or tilt my head a certain way the room would spin and I would fall down.
For me (but ask your dr as it depends what kind you have I think) I did a couple techniques I found on YouTube. Basically I had to lie down and "bring on the dizzies". It made me pretty nauseous doing the excercises but eventually it did go away. I went from having episodes that lasted almost all day to having random ones here and there that were pretty mild and for now (knocks on wood) have not had any for over a year.
It totally sucks. See if your dr recomends those techniques maybe??
ETA: Just googled it. The treatment I did was the Epley maneuver.
