Anyone have galbladder issues/surgery?

I have had what i think are galbladder attacks 4 times in the last week. i thought it was bad indigestion and I'm now taking Prilosec and zantac daily, but after some research I'm pretty confident its my galbladder. i have an u/s scheduled for thursday am, and i kinda hope they find something so i at least get a resolution to the problem. The pain is horrible. i can't take it anymore.

Does anyone have experience with the surgery in pregnancy or with a change in diet to help symptoms?

I do not have experience with gall bladder issues in pregnancy (I had mine removed 7 years ago), but for me anyway, no change in diet helped. If your gall bladder is inflamed and/or full of stones, you will get the attacks. And I really empathize....those attacks are AWFUL.

Can you have your gall bladder removed while pregnant? Did a doctor tell you that was an option? (just asking cause I don't know!)

Hopefully, your appt on Thursday will help shed some light on the issue.

Good luck!!!

Sorry  you are going through this.

I had my gallbladder out it caused me horrible reflux, ulcers and pain and is no fun!! Its possible yours has given you a ulcer which can cause similiar pains, Stay on the reflux meds and avoid tomatoes, ketchup, pasta anything that irratates it, ( my surgeon told me if it tast good spit it out lol) this helped for a while. Its takes awhile to fully feel better once it is out too.. like 3- 6 months to re adjust your diet I still have horrible problems with Acid reflux :-(

However, to remove it they have to put you under which is a HUGE NO-NO during pregnancy and can pose a strong risk to your unborn baby.

I have 4 kidney stones right now all above 4-6MM of which need surgery to be removed but was advised by 3 dr that its a no-no unless i want to possible have my baby not survive being completly under that long..So Now we just hope they other stay in place as I have had to pass 2 !! and its excruiting..

 Good Luck !!

I too had my gallbladder out but my issues occurred after my 2nd pregnancy. So I do not have experience having surgery while pregnant. However, I can also say that changing my diet didn't help at all. It didn't matter what I ate I would have issues. A banana would cause pain! But I have another friend who has managed hers just by changing her diet. I think it depends on the severity of the inflammation and/or stones.

the only thing that has helped me is mass water intake and avoiding the fatty foods... my u/s only showed sludge due to pregnancy so I am not sure if it is the same as what an actual attack feels like. it is not fun though i feel your pain!

I am so sorry you are going through this!  I dealt with attacks during my first pregnancy and ended up having my gallbladder removed at about 16 weeks.  I changed my diet completely, but it did not help.  I started losing quite a bit of weight and my doctor told me that the benefits in my case outweighed the risks.  I am not sure if they have a cutoff point in pregnancy that they determine it is no longer safe for surgery though.  If it helps to know, I am so glad that I had mine removed!  In my case it would have been more of a risk and danger to my DD not to have surgery since my gallbladder was preventing me from pretty much eating at all.  I had absolutely no complications during surgery or after, and I now have a happy and healthy two year old.  :)  HTH!  I wish you the best of luck!

Yes - its awful feeling, I got on nexxium which helped tremendously and ate pretty plain food diet (no spices, fatty foods, candy etc) for a few weeks.  After that it calmed down a lot but I still had some trigger foods I knew to avoid (for me it was Olive Oil, Avocado, Tuna, things like that)
