Update, Could use good thoughts, prayers, etc.

Hi Ladies,

I know I could post this somewhere else, but 2IF feels like home so I hope those who are newer and don't know me won't mind.  I was just diagnosed with Influenza A and strep throat.  Influenza is apparently not good at all to get while pregnant and has been linked to an increased risk of autism and schizophrenia in the baby.  I am taking tamiflu due to my doctor's (Ob's) recommendation.  I am hoping that will decrease some of the risks of the flu, but I know it has its own risks as well.  I am kind of freaking out about all of this since it took us so long to get pregnant in the first place and I feel like if something happened to this baby it would be really hard for me to ever try again.  Did any of you have influenza with your first pregnancy?  I think the odds are probably on my side that it will be okay, but it is so scary while we are going through it.  DD is sick too probably with at least influenza, DH just went to the doctor because he is now feeling bad, the dog is in the hospital with diabetes...we sound more pitiful than a sad country song!

I'm so sorry! I hope everybody is feeling better asap. I wasn't sick during my pregnancy, but I know how much it sucks to worry about things like that.

Hope everyone is feeling better soon!  I am sure the baby will be just fine.  I didn't have the flu while pregnant, but one of my coworkers did when she was about 15 weeks.  Her baby is now 3, and she is happy and healthy.  Try not to worry too much.  Just take care of yourself and try to get some rest.

I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I didn't have the flu when I was pregnant with DS, but I did have to take medication that was rated a C class on safefetus.com, and everything turned out just fine.

Just try to keep your fever down and drink lots of fluids. We'll say lots of prayers for you and the baby and the rest of your family too.

I had the flu when pregnant with DD! It was awful and I was also prescribed Tamiflu. (Can you believe how expensive it is?!?!?) Although I am aware that autism and schizophrenia can be late-onset, I see no evidence of them thus far. :)

Take care of yourself and get back to enjoying pregnancy quickly.

When I was pregnant with DS Swine Flu was at its peak. I did get the vaccine and did not end up with it, but there were several girls on the tri boards at that time that did and took the same meds as you. To my knowledge, none of them had children with any physical or psychological issues. Obviously the benefits outweigh the risk or else your OB would not perscribe. I completely understand why you are worried though. Just drink lots of fluid and get lots of rest. I'll be thinking of you!

Thank you all for your reassurances, thoughts, and prayers.  I am feeling better now, although still a little tired.  The medicine helped a lot so I am glad that I took it.  Hopefully there will be no bad side effects.  Along with the stories posted here, I have heard some stories from people irl that they were also perscribed tamiflu while pregnant and it all turned out okay.  So, I am hopeful that it will be fine.  DD is also better now (I am pretty sure she had it too), DH was put on tamiflu as a preventative measure so hopefully he won't get it at all.  Our dog came home from the doggy hospital yesterday and is doing good with his diabetes so far too.  Thank you all again!
