I do my best to put away my phone and laptop when its A's time. There is definitely room for improvement though! Example - I work from home and A goes to daycare until 12PM. I take my break from 12-1 so we can have lunch together and play before her nap. 9 times out of 10 I still answer emails or check my phone while she is eating her lunch. Granted I am still talking to her etc but like the article says just b/c we are conversing doesn't mean I am really present. Why can't I just take an actual break? I'm really going to work on changing this.
Once A is in bed or napping I have a tendency to play on my phone too much. DH has said to me multiple times....."Put the damn phone down!" He said this last night and I actually got annoyed with him!! I took a step back at that point and realized that yeah.......I am on my phone too much when it should be time for the two of us to chat about the day or watch a movie together etc.
And yes, I am guilty of checking my phone at red lights. From now on my phone is going in my purse in the backseat. My car connects to my phones bluetooth so I can still answer calls but there will be no email/text checking etc.
