Must have for baby's first week home

Hello everyone. I'm a fist time mom my babys due Aug 16th and I'm starting to get super excited and or course a little nervous. I want to make sure I have everything I need for the Little ones first week home. Does anyone know where I can find a check list or can you tell me what you found helpful.

Thanks!!

Congrats on your upcoming due date!  Here's what I used the first week home.  Diapers, onesies (it's hot in MN), burp cloths, towels for bath time, baby body wash and shampoo, formula (needed to supplement), bottles, soothie pacifier, lots of blankets, nail clippers and file.

I hope that helps:)

Congrats!

I would say the things I found most useful are my rock 'n play (although my son doesn't really sleep in it much anymore, but the first couple weeks he was home it paid for itself.)

My Fisher Price Snug-a-bunny bouncer chair - my son loves this chair! It seems to help him go to the bathroom too, which I know sounds odd - but it works every time if he seems to be struggling!

A lot of blankets/burp cloths - we ran threw these quick! washing/drying, etc..

Pacifiers (my son doesn't like them, but I hear they work great if your baby will take them.)

Extra laundry soap - you'll be doing lots of laundry.

Back-up diapers and wipes. We now use the Amazon subscribe and save feature.. it's great!

But I have to say the two things we use most are gas drops and Colic Calm gripe water. Make sure you give those a try if your baby is fussy.. :)

I second rock 'n play! We also used the other basics mentioned above. Diapers, wipes, burp rags/cloths, pacifiers, swaddling/receiving blankets, onesies, formula (if you FF), bottles, bottle brush, baby wash and washcloths (for sponge bath), and I think that was about it for the necessities.

My husband went back to work the day after we got home from the hospital and since my LO was 3 weeks early it took a few days for my family to get here to help, so along with all the reglar things that the ladies above have mentioned here were my must haves for week one:

1. a seat to leave in the bathroom (i peed so often and then you have to change your pads, rinse with the peri-bottle, get your tucks situated and wash your hands. It takes a few minutes!) I ended up using his carseat so i could keep an eye on him while i did my thing when i was by myself with no dh, mil, sil or mom to hold him.

2. night light for our bedroom so I could see him breathing without having to turn the light on.

3. I wish I would have had my snuza monitor the first week. That would have helped both my husband and I sleep a little better. We have it now and use it every night.

I also loved my moby wrap and his bouncy seat. We used both of those alot the first week too.

Good luck!

Pillows.  I spent the first two/three weeks mainly on the couch because she didn't like sleeping unless she was on us (chest to chest).  I would get her comfy and then use the pillows to prop my arms up so that when I fell asleep I knew I wasn't going to drop her.  It was the only way I got any sleep at all.  I did this lounging on the couch.  Also, frozen meals so your DH can cook easily.  Also make sure that if you think you're going to be stationary for a while (if she's napping but you'll be awake), that you get everything you need/want and put it within arm's reach.  A glass of water, a snack, the remote, your laptop, a phone, etc.  Always arm's reach.  Good luck and congratulations!!

Baby stuff all of the PPs have already said.

The rock n play saved our sanity. DH bought it when dd was three days old.  Infinite burp cloths (though we needed those more as she got older).

I would add my breast friend, nipple cream, tucks pads, wrap t-shirts like the ones they wear in the hospital b/c you can just unsnap and open for skin on skin time and miracle blanket swaddler.

OMG this...be prepared. Lol, get everything that you can even think you might need and put it in arms reach before you sit down to nurse or calm baby.  It is the worst when you finally get kiddo to relax and then your dang cell phone rings and it is clear across the room!

A diaper caddie for where you will be most often.  We had one in the bedroom where DD slept in the swing and one in the living room, a centralized location.

Also, keep your needed items nearby.  Like others said, you'll want the remote, cell phone, water whatever within arms reach every time you settle in.

SWADDLES! Or, the 5 S's (swaddle, side, shush, swing, suck)

Canadian Nipple Cream.. Sounds crazy but this stuff works!

Crossbody snap teeshirts.  It was nerve wracking trying to get DD little head and arms thru the onesies.  The teeshirts were sooo much easier.

Nail file.  Their nails aren't separated from the skin, so cutting is extremely dangerous.  They will scratch themselves if you don't keep the nails dull.  Also, Lansolin gel works wonders on baby face scratches...

Best of luck!

Food for you. Easy, no prep finger food. You will be getting only a couple hours sleep at a time and you will be faced with the decision: sleep? Eat? Shower? And most of the time sleep will win! If you can grab a package of peanut butter crackers or a sandwich on your way to the pillow, you won't starve to death! :)

Bringing a new baby home is an exciting for every parent. You must need to check soft bedding, crib, toys, smooth clothes, bottle, bottle brush, baby bath care products, especially to avoid infections.
