Baby shower planning before knowing sex

Hi. I would like to begin sending out the invitations to my baby shower soon even though I don't find out if I'm having a boy or girl until January. I am just excited and don't want to wait haha. I have all of the information about where and when and stuff I just don't know the baby's sex but am definately expecting presents. Would it be rude to send the invitations just so I don't need to wait but write that I will update everyone with the sex when I know?

Sorry weird question but I'm new to this..............

if you aren't finding out the sex until january, then you are obviously fairly newly pregnant... 

Don't send out invites until earliest 4 weeks before the actual shower...

IMO, sending invites out right now may seem like you are greedy in wanting things...

Im hosting my friends baby shower in late February, and don't plan on sending the invites until late January...

Plus, people will most likely forget the date if it is so far out...

OP, you should definitely send invitations out now, but I am thinking you should create a Facebook page instead. That way your guests can get contant updates on you and your baby and the latest and greatest, high-end baby gadgets you want them to buy.

Have you started your registries yet? You'll need at least 5 with at least 200 items each. Get busy!

My aunt is having it at her house so she along with hopefully some family members will help to pay. I dont think it will cost a lot. And my child is not poor, thank you.

 

I guess I will wait to send out invitations but it is hard to be patient.

MelRC, you are right! Th OP is sooooo busy that she actually had time to track me down to my birth club, where she posted at least once about how *I* am MUD. Actually, in the instance I saw, she quoted my reply twice, and then wrote "MUD" below it.

I have to admit it's most realistically teenage-y thing she's done all day - I suppose it was the bump equivalent of "I know you are but what am I".

Of course you are, its every MTB right to have a big party with lots of presents, just like she deserves.  I would definiately register as soon as possible and send out the invites....then be sure to check you registry everyday from now on so you can track all of the awesome presents you get.  Most people buy shower gifts as soon as they get their invite so you won't have to wait and find out what you are getting.  Its not like pregnancy is a long processes, so you should probably hurry up and get started!

You don't need to know the baby's gender to choose invites unless you are really going gender specific.  I never knew what my babies were going to be until they were born but I had 3 showers for my first. 

I have hosted many showers and I suggest not sending out invites until 3-4 weeks before the shower.  People put them aside and then it becomes outta sight - outta mind (they just forget).  Showers are usually hosted in the 7th or 8th month.  Mine were later (in my 9th month) but that is the way my family rolls.  lol

I'm confused, it sounds as though you are hosting your own baby shower?  That's generally considered a no-no, typically you wait for a friend or family member to offer to throw one for you.

Invitations are generally sent about four weeks prior to the event.

It is possible to send out invitations when you do not know the sex of the child. Not that long ago most mothers did not know the sex of the child ahead of time and people were able to plan showers just fine.

If you're really impatient, just start shopping online, reading reviews of different products, educating yourself on the birth process, etc. You'd be surprised how much there really is to prepare for. You'll be wishing you had more time before you're done.
