Venue for my Baby Shower

My BF is planning my baby shower along with my husband.  It's mostly her doing the work and I being the worry wart and control freak that I am, I am a little concerned about the venue.  Neither my BF or myself own a home big enough to host 50+ people.  She has been looking around for a budget friendly price but it's been difficult.  Does anyone have any suggestions of where the baby shower can be held without it costing a ridiculous amount?  It's just a baby shower but it's my last and only baby shower as I went into the labor the day of my first borns baby shower!  We live in the San Fernando Valley so we are looking for a nearby venue.

Do either of you attend a church with a reception area or gathering hall? Those would be cheaper to rent out than a restaurant or something, they often only ask for a donation for that type of gathering. I've been to a bridal shower and a baby shower in a setting like that.

Hmmm. First post, your DH is helping host, and it's a 50 shower for a 2nd baby. Nice try.

Maybe you could rent a hall at a small hotel or like a PP suggested, a church?

Hopefully your friend is the only one listed as host since it is really frowned on for your DH to host (essentially he would be hosting a shower for himself).

As for venues a real easy way to find out what is available is to contact your local Chamber of Commerce.  If they aren't helpful (although they should be) some ideas is VFW/American Legion Hall (someone has to be a member usually), Senior Center (some of them are very nice), church reception/fellowship halls (as a couple of pps mentioned), park (if your weather is nice) that has a shelter/covering, a "club house" that is part of an apartment/mobile home park (someone has to live there...so it would go in on their name) are some ideas.

Often times you can pay just a nominal fee to have an event in a park in your town. Might be worth looking into that.
