Okay to host while sick?

And by sick I mean a horrible cold that I can't kick for the past 3 weeks!  Blah.  Anyways, I don't like when people come to things when they're sick, but I spent so much money and time on this shower for my friend.  I'm hosting, I planned it all, etc., and it's on Sunday.  I've been sick for so long I just really don't know if I'll be better by then.  (Doctors say it's cause I'm pregnant that it's taking so long to get rid of it.)  I am definitely germ conscious and I wouldn't cough on anyone, etc., obviously.

So, would you still go and host the shower with a cold or ask someone else to do it?

(Everything is done and paid for too.  And people are coming from out of state so I really can't reschedule.)

I think it would depend. Are you just kind of recouping from some side effects of a previous cold. Or are you still full blown sick with a fever and possibly contagious? If you are contagious I would not host a shower.  Even if you don't cough on someone you can still get them sick.

Honestly, I would ask the guest of honor. I would hate to be the MTB and end up sick while pregnant because I was not warned or offered the chance to reschedule my shower.

Well, if you have a fever and are contagious like PP said, then yes, I can see trying to get another friend to fill in for you, but I would not do so for a lingering cold. Ask your OB about Sudafed, clear yourself out with the Netipot, keep some tissues and hand sanitizer in your pocket, keep something in your hands to avoid shaking hands or hugging anybody, and excuse yourself every so often to go to the bathroom to blow your nose, get fresh air, or whatever else you need to do. I'd enlist a friend's help just in case. Other than that, just try not to hock a loogie in the cake!

No fever since two weeks ago.  Just all stuffed up still.  Tried Sudafed.  Tried Benedryl.  Still congested with runny nose, but no fever.  Sigh, being sick sucks.  Being sick for 3 weeks straight blows.  I actually feel like I might be a little better today.  Here's hoping.

I would plan to go - I would also give the guest of honor a heads up that you may step out early, because you're sick, and ask someone to be your back-up host. This way you still get to be there but have an out if needed.

I say if your not contagious and don't have a fever go for as long as your body can handle, but you don't want to push too hard! FX that you feel better like NOW!

I hosted my SIL's shower when I was sick. By sick I mean I ended up going right from her shower to the emergency room because I had a biopsy done on a cyst on my thyroid that became infected (it was horrible). However, I wasn't contagious and had a lot of help from my MIL, other SIL, and my husband. So I think if you can get someone to help you and you're not contagious then I would still go and host.

Although, I do sympathize with you that being sick and having to play host is exhausting. Good luck!

Yes in your situation I would host as planned. I'm sure you'll keep your hands washed and won't sneeze on anyone.

One of my hostesses called me yesterday morning (day of the shower) and told me she was sick... i told her stay home and get better and that my mom could handle it (she co-hosted) She would feel horrible if I had ended up sick. I know she put a lot of time and effort into the shower.

Let the MTB know whats going on and Im sure she will be ok with you sitting out. Im sure she will understand you not wanting to get her sick... or anyone else for that matter!

I personally wouldn't like it if I showed up and the host was sick and potentially getting everyone else sick.  I would say continue with planning if you want and then ask someone else who is attending to maybe take over hosting duties on day of party.  I know it sucks, but I would definately limit your contact with the others.
