Gifts that are sent directly to you before your shower...

Are you ladies planning to take them to the shower with you and open them there or just open them as they come?

I was holding off to open them all closer to the shower - but then I kept getting emails and calls asking if I had received what they sent. I started opening packages as they arrived (some were truly by mistake as I have been ordering a lot myself online so there were a few times that I thought it was a package I had ordered, lol)

But, what is the general "norm" for opening or not opening packages before the shower.

(These are guests that won't be at the shower...so I wasn't sure if it was worth it to lug them to the shower?)

Don't lug them to the shower...you just have to lug them back home...it is perfectly acceptible (and I think most people would assume that you would) open them when you get them...then you can also get a jump start on all those thank you notes you have to write!

Keep it simple...

Have fun at your shower!

You should definitely open all packages as you receive them and send off thank you notes to let the givers know that they've arrived safely.  I wouldn't lug them to the shower- most people probably sent gifts to your home to save you from transporting them.

Yeah - don't lug them.  As they won't be at the shower, what's the point?  Trust me, most of your other guests don't really care that much what other people give you, much less people who aren't even there!

Open them as they come and send a thank you card right away. That way, the gift giver knows you got their gift, AND you won't forget to send them a thank you note in the crazy gift shuffle after the shower.

Also, don't lug them to the shower. You'll only have to lug them all back, and you'll have enough things to cart home after, don't make it harder for yourself.

Open the gifts and send the thank you cards.  If the person will be at the shower...take a picture of the gift (if you want) and mention the gift when you open the other gifts to acknowledge the person.
